Your last paragraph typically ignores the points I made, in order to reinforce your blinkered point of view. Perhaps you missed some of the interviews with numbers of ordinary Afghans in various parts of the country on election day. They are living there and voting despite the threats of death by Taliban. It is a pity that some commentators apparently know better than those on the ground in the firing line.

Of course it won’t be easy and there will be big security problems as there are in Iraq, but it is progress.
