There was an impromptu Forum (or clique) visit to Popham today when Propstrike and friend popped in with Cub G-BTUM. PaulC was also there and so much slagging off of forum members was done(or not).
PaulC was very god in not taking pictures of me proving I can’t fly a Cub from the front seat and Propstrike was very good in letting me fly. I worked out later it was eleven years since I last flew something off of 08 at Popham!
I taxied the Rearwin down (I needed to do some checks!) and I forced Paul to sit in the payload seat and help me check the headphones on the way back to the hanger.
It was a very pleasant day at Popham today, a fair bit of flying and some good company.
PaulC also dod not photograph me riding my bike.

Melyvn,
know both of them from non Popham events – Phil is a regular at Romsey aviation group meetings and Keith’s aircraft is kept at Lee-on-Solent – behind our old hangar with his SE5 replica & microlight (Dragon I think)
Keith’s Dragon used ot live in the shed when I was first rebuilding the Rearwin. This thing is incredible. It is a rucksack with wings. Designed by Bill Brookes who went on to do that thing on Scrapyard Challenge.
Did you get any pics of Keith’s Pietenpol on Sat? That thing is really nicely made.

Those are the ones Paul. The guy sitting in the seat in pic three and almost obscured by the Cloudster in pic 2 is Phil Wiltshire, who built the Sherwood Ranger G-CCBW in your first lot of pics. The other guy in the pic with the fat bloke and two others is Keith Matcham who had just arrived in the Pietenpol.

Melv, are you just planning to ground run the Red Bull executive A/C all its life? 😀
By: Melvyn Hiscock - 27th March 2005 at 23:58
Oh yeah, and I have never claimed to be able to spoll.

Melvyn,
promoted to ‘god’ from ‘payload’ (see line 1)- must have done something to deserve that (not taking any incriminating pictures maybe :)) but was a real treat to taxi in the Rearwin.
Just a few pictures from yesterday though – the first is Melvyn in the rear of BTUM (ooerrr missus) 2nd is Propstrike on departure

Melvyn, The pleasure was all mine, and I can only apologise that the seatbelt appeared to suffer some temporary malfunction (Melvfunction). Kylie herself would have a job to fasten that tiny strap! Mind you, she would not have caused an eclipse in the back seat!
I’m no instructor, but I would say you pedalled the Cub round in fine style. Good luck on your ‘1st solo’.
Andrew.

Are you still just taxiing the red thing? Scared of heights? Too pissed on Blue Nun to risk flying it?
No, I have given up drinking, not that Blue Nun even qualifies as drink, but the Dearwings has flown twice. First flight had very few problems but second had a slight oil pressure problem (since sorted) and a couple of housekeeping jobs to do. The engine needed running to ensure the oil problem was sorted (it is) and I had to check out the new headset I bought.
Stuart Goldspink is designated test pilot and he is due back from a trip on Monday so with luck, and weather, we could get the test time finished this coming week. Then I can get to fly her.
However, with spending far too much time and even more money getting the Rearwin ready I had not flown anything since June last year. Therefore the very obliging Mr Strike let me fly the cub (or to put it another way, let me play with his BTUM) and it was nice to know I can still do it. I am still going to need a little more stick time to get back in the swing (or in fact avoid it!) and to get used to the Popham circuit which is one I have not flown much and which has offset approaches on 08/26 and an interesting one over the trees and downhill on 03.
Propstrike was remarkably cool after we came back from two or so of my better landings of the single approach!
