The last week at Southend has once again been rather good, especially for the time of year. The weather has also been excellent, with barely a cloud to be seen in all of the photos:
First, however not wishing to neglect the scheduled stuff:
EI-CPT from Dublin:

And G-EZGN off to Jersey:

A nice arrival to Runway 06 from Lasham after storage was this 737, still resplendent in full bmibaby colours, at Southend for maintenance and painting, destined for Nigerian outfit Discovery Air. Looks remarkably good despite being stored for a year, and certainly a rare catch in flight now.

Next, the highlight – the Congo President’s private jet 9Q-CDC, a 48 year old Boeing 727 of course, returned to the hangar after some nice and noisy engine runs, in preparation for its first flight since arriving at Southend in December 2010. Showing off its recently acquired winglets.

A very nice surprise for me was EI-FAU, Aer Arann’s latest acquisition operating a Dublin flight instead of the scheduled ATR42.

And Aero Contractors of Nigeria Boeing 737-500 5N-BKR departed back to Lagos via Algiers after maintenance:

Another Volotea 717 made an appearance on the weekly Plama flight for Thomson. Holding, waiting for a slot at busy Palma:

And departing off Runway 06 – on another excellent day. The light is improving now too:

And if 1 Nigerian 737 wasn’t enough, sister ship 5N-BLC departed on a test flight:

And to finish, a rather nice (and shiny!) BBJ, N92SR departed to Stansted:

As always, I hope these are of interest! Not bad at all for a week at your local!

Thanks EGTC!
The 727 required a very major maintenance check – and has been in the hangar almost continuously since it arrived – a very big job indeed, and would be excellent to see her fly!
Yes the 146 is ex. Flightline, hasn’t flown since the demise of the airline in December 2008. A few of the ex Flightline birds have found new leases of life as water bombers in the States.
As with the HS748, another one which hasn’t flown for a few years now. Yes, in the livery of Janes Aviation, who were a very short lived cargo operator who tried to fill the gap left by Emerald. It was G-AYIM, but according to the CAA has been de-registered.
Hope this helps!

Lovely set.
Why has that B727 been in maintenance for so long? 🙂
In the last photo who operates the HS748’s in the background? One looks like ‘Janes’ I think. Is the BAe 146 flightline?

Thanks Crispy. When the maintenance movements do move, Southend is an excellent place to be.
All gone a bit quiet on the 727 at the moment, the thing hasn’t flown in almost 3 years.
Here’s a few more shots from yesterday, with the Aero Contrctors 737 doing another test flight and the weekly Volotea flight:

Superb pictures as always. Its years since I have been to Southend to see if there were any unusual visitors.
Doe’s anybody know when the 727 is likely to depart? I would love to see a 727 depart Southend again it would certainly be worth the trip!
