Air Pullmantur of Spain operates three ageing B747 (two 200 series and a 300 one). The operate two weekly flights to La Romana, to feed their cruise ships, using B747-200 and 300. In november, I flew with them.
Despite planes are old, I flew on the B747-300 (former Varig, former Air Atlanta, former Iberia) which is inmaculate. I have never enjoyed B747s. Long take offs, slow climbing (or at least it seems son) and vibration if one travels in the middle section (wind getting into the landing gear pit). In my case the weather was sunny and take off from Madrid was quite smooth. We soon headed to the Atlantic in a really quiet flight with a fine cabin service. Flight attendents are really beautiful, food is decent (a main meal and typical spanish ham baguette prior landing in a 8 hours flight.
I was a bit upset since the weather forecast was storm in arrival. Fortunately we got there half an hour later. Fortunately landing was also really smooth. It was lovely, flying in the middle of the broken clouds…..yes the smilling thing, it´s me relieved (I am a bit fearful flyer).

Oh yes. Defintely. Spanish Planes Armada with two B747, one A330, two Corseair ones, a NEOS and other from an undentified airline. So small and so many planes on the tarmac.

Fantastic read, Keltic! 🙂
I can’t imagine what state La Romana airport was in when a 747 full of holidaymakers arrived. It’s definitely the smallest airport I’ve ever visited. On my visit there in the Summer of 2001, our Britannia 767 arrived and it took us more than an hour just to clear immigration! And I know the departures area is just as tiny.

Keltic.
Did you get my e-mail message two days ago as you don’t seem to have a P.M. function enabled?

Flight back was a bit more turbulent. Why always night flights from America to Europe are usually bumpy?. Service suspended for three times, and unconfortable trying to sleep…… We arrived an hour before our schedule time 😀
