Cracking Song Gromit!

Every now and then a song strikes a chord (no pun intended!) and is solid gold. A song that I love because it seduces the senses and has a gorgeousness I cannot put my finger on, maybe it is just me? It has all the right ingredients….
‘wearing the inside out’ by Pink Floyd from Division Bell with lead vocals sung by Rick Wright.

Am I going mad or does anyone else see where I am coming from?!

Are there any songs that make you feel that way?!

I have a very eclectic taste in music (AKA cr@p:D)
This is a song about a 19YO soldier killed in WW1,it is SO sad I can barely listen to it but Ronnie Brown also had a lovely voice….

Try the original by the composer

I don’t know why I listen to these. I am sitting here with a lump in my throat and tears running down my face at the shear bloody stupidity of it all and remembering all those who faced hell. War to end all War!

I have always admired songwriters who can write about more abstract subjects than ‘Lurve’,Mary Chapin Carpenter is a very talented songwriter with a beautiful voice.I know this style of song is not to everybodies taste but worth listening to just for that voice,a song about a small american country town…

We were children once, playing with toys.

Here you go Tony, two tracks much loved by the ageing, Bob Harris listening public…

Alvin Lee: The Bluest Blues

I always meant to return to this thread with a subtly different slant…when I was a teenager I wasnt really into music in a big way although I quite liked some of the ‘Searchers’ stuff and also some of the ‘Pretty Things’.
I started to take an interest in music about 1970 and here are 2 songs/tunes that I thought were outstanding in 1970

‘Albatross’ by Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac…such a departure from their previous straight bluesy style 🙂

Peter Green was a wonderful guitarist and was lucky enough to see him live 🙂

Next is Moody Blues ‘Question’ – French TV 1970…wasnt sure which song to go for (big choice LOL)but I saw these guys live many times…very talented 🙂

However, cutting a long story short we got back together recently after 21 years apart and life is great . That song ( and the whole Say Something Good Allbum) get played quite a lot again now !!!:D:D:D

Yes they were a great little band (too short lived by far)…
Here is a ‘Live’ version of ”Whats wrong with dreaming” with a deliciously jiggling Siohban (she gorgeous :))

Dozens and dozens! I listen to music for the reasons stated above and have memories since my first record purchase in 1963 (From me to you…Beatles).

Presently, the track I keep going for on Mp3 is “We don’t celebrate Sundays” by Hardcore Supersrtar. Simply because it’s how Rock should be.

The other song that does it for me,but is also one of those songs I no longer play that often is “Days” by either The Kinks or Kirsty McColl.
When my Dad died 11 years ago I was playing both versions pretty much for the comfort the song brang and on the memories that flooded back. By cruel irony the day of my Dads funeral Kirsty was killed and that weeks Croydon Advertiser had story about her on the same page as an obituary message about my Dad, there were other links like she was born in same hospital my Dad died in etc but thats another story.

The next year I went to see Ray Davies play live we had second row seats , He played “Days” and was looking straight at me as tears rolled down my face, magical song and for me an emotional one.

‘Last Horizon’ by Brian May. It stands as a beautiful piece of guitar work on its own, but the first time I sat and really listened to it was one evening at RAF Cranwell last year.

It was the perfect end to a perfect day, and the tune remains one of my favourites.

I was a Lifeguard at Newquay many years ago.

(But it was more about the chances of pulling, than the chances of pulling anybody out of the sea)

Chilling out the last 20years with Tangerine Dream and Thief, particularly the Beach theme on a hot summers day, on the cliffs, overlooking Newquay, as a Coastguard.(waiting for the inevitable ‘shout’)

[QUOTE=bazv;1842126]I have probably 15 or so songs that really get me… but here is a sort of ‘what could have been’ – Siohban Maher was the singer with River City People and she never really became as well known as she should have been…
QUOTE]

OK, sentimental time now …..

Me and my girlfriend at the time both loved this band when they came out. Walking on Ice was a particular favorite. Unfortunately we were both too young to handle the responsibilities that the relationship brought and we split, but she was always the one that got away for me…… Couldn’t listen to the song for the best part of twenty years.

However, cutting a long story short we got back together recently after 21 years apart and life is great . That song ( and the whole Say Something Good Allbum) get played quite a lot again now !!!:D:D:D
