Here’s an extract from the 1964 OS sheet.

I reckon the picture was taken around that crossroads of the A538 and the minor road at the 06 end. I think the brickworks is the L shaped building on the other side of the old main road. All that is long gone now.

Thanks Arthur. I think the Skyways machines only had the livery for 3 years, they were leased.
It’s not vital, just interesting. I’m pretty sure it’s Ringway…every time I look at it it bongs a bing in my head.

Do you know a rough date – I’m guessing early 1960s, I can have look at my OS maps for around that time and see where it might have taken from – and see if it is Ringway.

….another observation on that picture.
The owner says it was a holiday snap of his parents.
I doubt very much if it was taken with any kind of zoom lens, so…if that’s the old 06 end, looking South at Jacksons Brickyard…then where was the photographer stood? Looks like on the taxiway?
In those days, there was a road across the runway wasn’t there? Could be at the barrier point of that maybe?

Not Speke.
I spent much of my adolescence in and around the airfield, spotting and then Air Training Corps, and that chimney rings no bells at all.

i thaught ringway at first but then thaught speke ( john lennon ) would be a better possibility as it had a lot of the motor industry factorys close by

Dunno, Ringway was my suspicion. I spotted there in the 60’s and the picture just looked familiar to me. Not my picture, I posted it for somebody else.

Is it Manchester – landing 06 with the brick works in background?
