May I congratulate the scumbags, who managed in a single night, to cause the total demolition of buildings that Hitlers bombers failed to do at the height of the Blitz.

Clearly this thread has nothing to do with the riots anymore…and is just a random collection of comments now, and nothing else. Hence, closed.

Contrary to what anti-royalists love to believe the Queen has more experience and depth of knowledge about the functions of the state and the constitution than any of the elected MPs.
Her strength is that she stands apart from the political point scoring and infighting that characterises present day governance. Her son does not so I am not enthusiastic about his eventual elevation to the title.

. The question is more one of do we want an elected head of state? Of course is someone dislikes the idea of having a Queen, then I’d love to see their reaction to the composition of the Lords 😉
tony blair , bush , or the queen ……………still a p**s easy question !! queen wins for me the other option is a dreafull thaught ..

[QUOTE=ppp;1788113]At least it will put a cork in the mouths of those Scots who were gloating of how Scotland was free of riots 🙂
Its fairly hard to secure something against a thief with tools! If they have a long scaffold pole then the leverage they can put onto the base of the shutter is insane.
you don’t need tools if bolt locks are not fitted you merely need to get your fingers under the bottom and lift and wrench them out
a security shutter is only like any other door
if you don’t fit locks it is easy to get into
and 95% when asked if they require bolt locks at the base reply
” our staff won’t want to do that “
maybe attitudes will change now
shutters can be made more secure but you cannot help those that don’t want to listen because it is a little more expense or a little more inconvenient

I don’t see the cost as a factor, the Queen is extremely profitable for the country. The question is more one of do we want an elected head of state? Of course is someone dislikes the idea of having a Queen, then I’d love to see their reaction to the composition of the Lords 😉
By: tornado64 - 16th August 2011 at 08:45
when you look at the options such as , bush , amin , hirrohito , hitler , etc etc for the minimal cost to each individual i’d be happy to pay double for our royals , they have done far more for this country throughout the world than those that criticise !

Thirs is the only time I will ever agree that the queen can be usefull. She certainly can give the pm advice on what it is like to not work and live at the tax payers expense.

Waco – why, you ask! If you need to ask the question you clearly have more faith than I do in the likely winner of national vote for Head of State.
You also seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that the HoS has to be anything other than a figurehead and a representative of our country and who, most important of all, is 100% apolitical.
He/she also offers experience and advice, totally confidentially, to the Prime Minister of the day.

Nor do I hear any comment from the First Minister:rolleyes:

Still can’t believe the crass behaviour of our future generation BUT……
The expensively fitted security shutters/grilles were so easily breached by these loot hungry nutcases? WHY?

we taught them that it was a society where anything is possible , huge debt was ok , everyone can be rich and famous , designer clothes are a must , even if skint still kept up with the joneses , maxing out on credit cards
we failed to say ,” life isn’t like that , sometimes it is s**t and you have to do without
instead through bad parenting , excessive advertising , and yadda yadda yadda
we bred a nation that doesn’t just want the world but two secconds later wants the moon too
but only if it is with someone elses money
sorry but the buck does stop firmly with our generation we have been too soft for too many years !!
talk about sweeping generalisation.
I’m as pissed off and concerned as anyone, but to say a whole nation is that way is ridiculous.

That pretty much proves the theory a few pages back that while kids were out having a laugh at the expense of the taxpayer, there were organized criminals behind the scenes, making sure they got their share without getting their hands dirty.

The expensively fitted security shutters/grilles were so easily breached by these loot hungry nutcases? WHY?
speaking as someone who used to install security shutters , a lot of businesses are too tight to fit bolt locks to the guide rails at the bottom and the staff are too lazy to use them prefering a push button and go home method
fine and dandy but it reduces the effectiveness of the shutters by about 90% as they are p**s easy to lift up and pull out as shown
fraid it is tight arsed lazy britain showing its head again !!
