Some years ago an elderly gent ( Older than me ) gave me a couple of stand ashtrays. I believe he was employed during WW2 by one of the local industries . ie: Smiths,Dowty GAC or something . He told me the ashtrays were some form of spare time trench art.
I wish I could remember the full details but as far as i recall they are made from aircraft engine /fittings bits. Filters, magneto, coil, distributor inspection cover bits. I think he said the stems are valve push rod covers??
I have 2 of these both slightly different ( I’ll dig the other one out of the garage & clean it up soon). The chrome on the attatached is still quite good for 70yrs old. As far as I can remember he mentioned Whitley or maybe Wimpy, cant remember!
Anybody want to throw in their 2p worth & have a guess.
Oh yea he said the ciggy rests were spark plug lead guides………

The tube is pretty thin gauge & the other one ( when I dig it out ) has a slight taper to it ( top to bottom).
When I was 4 my father ( who had left RAF by then & gone back to civilian instructor) made me a ride on loco. the timber was old Horsa glider & the wheels were Blenhieim bomber aileron control line pully wheels.

The stems look a bit of a big diameter for ‘valve push-rod covers’, and a bit substantial but other than that I haven’t a clue…
…now if they’d been made from aero-engine pistons! :rolleyes:
