How is it possible that an ordinary split pin in a bolt can a) have attitude and b) have a homing instinct?
If you have to delve around the unseen corners of an aeroplane it is highly likely that a split pin with a grudge (about who knows what) will stab you in the finger.
That same split pin will then manage to emed itself in the same finger AND IN THE SAME HOLE anything up to ten times and each time it hurts more than the last. Do split pins laugh?
Added to which, if you get a little cut on your hand when you are doing something other than aviation it might sting a little when you wash your hands next time. How come aviation-related cuts hurt even more? Could it be that we are aware just how much it cost to get the little cut?
Had a crap day yesterday. Can you tell?

No. Let’s see a photo of the dents in the Rearwin from where you kicked it. Then we’ll believe you! 😀

Split pins have a thankless life – they spend all their time doing a valuable job stopping your nuts falling off at inopportune times, only to be butchered and thrown away at the drop of a hat.
And you wonder why they have a grudge? Always apologise to split pins before you remove them, and thank them for the good job that they’ve done. That way they might get recycled into something of lasting value, and the god of plit pins will smile upon you.
