Apologies for drunkenness but a very surreal evening, He was a lovely man but not very good on tv questions. Feel somewhat humbled.

Yes, a genuinely nice bloke. Still running a couple of charities. He’d been drinking with his mate in Cardiff local and looked at a bit of a loose end. Had to say hello and one thing led to another. Never realised the Welsh Guards had been put back onto the Sir Galahad after a long march. Fascinating evening and got to buy him a few drinks.

I was lucky enough to meet him at Newmarket when he attended a meeting with my work. I sat at the dinner table with him and he gave me a signed book “Weston Spirit”

I remember two,I think, television documentaries that showed him recovering from his injuries, and being so impressed by his courage. It must have been getting on for thirty years ago,but to this day I can recall him crying in agony when the dressings on his burns were changed.
What a privilege to meet him.Is he still running his charity ?
