No war needed. Israel is playing a dangerous waiting game and is fast loosing the strategic advantages it has.
Israel’s backers won’t have the same power that they used to have, the rise of other countries who are not that sympathetic to Israel’s cause should be a concern for Israel. Although no one would want Israel to be destroyed, but its current state with occupied territories would become extremely difficult to justify.I don’t know whether it is sheer hate or delusion which is stopping Israel from taking the initiative to work for a lasting peace. They have every advantage at the moment, they need to cease the moment and get a better deal out of it.
Iran is a sideshow, every Muslim country dislikes Israel. Iranian govt is just saying it loud and clear.
If all the Western intelligence agencies of the world put together couldn’t figure out if Iraq had nuclear weapons or not, what hope do we have for Iranian weapons programme?
It’s called stockpiling. Wait and see, and GOD speed her.

I certainly think he’s an idiot and only in office as a novelty vote. Killing OSB in his house is the first decent thing he’s done. It will help remove his “Muslim-in-Chief” nomenclature.
And the event is not highly unlikely, the Arabs have a problem with Israel and the Jewish faith…full stop. Israel isn’t moving and the Arabs think they are better owners of the land.
It is only a little bit unlikely that US will be dragged in full bore, as Israel rarely asks for help and has a nice tidy stockpile of arms ready for the next fisticuff with the noisy neighbours. Public opinion stopped her last time, preventing a full on destruction of the Hamas or whatever they are called this year.
It has been erstwhile argued that given the size of Israel; its very very probable that even a single nuke hit it Israel will suffer a lot & the will to further attack will be all but crushed.
Given the inferiority of Israel’s enemies in conventional warfare…thy will use (as the last resort) biological/nuclear weapons..things that are harmful for a relatively pea-size country

Oh, well – we’ll agree to disagree………..:)

Who said he was an idiot? Not me, even if I think he is a pretty useless President. However, if he is President when this highly unlikely and hypothetical conflict occurs, he is the Commander-in-Chief and President and cannot be “outvoted” as you put it.

I don’t doubt Israeli military power, however all of this “10:0 to Israel” type attitude worries me.
Personally I believe that, if anything like the Yom Kippur war ever happened again in our lifetimes then Israel would lose. Blasphemy! I hear you all scream. Well my reason for saying this is that if a combination of Arab nations did decide to unite to destroy Israel, it would probably consist of several nations that did not take part in the previous conflicts that are well equipped, Saudi Arabia for example.
Add to this hi-tech enemy the involvement of fanatical groups fighting a guerilla style conflict and Israel may find itself over whelmed.
I cannot see the Saudis backing its Arab ‘brothers’ in any confrontation with an entity, that is such a pivotal part of the US design for the Middle East and the Gulf…….Israel. The participation of Saudi forces in brutally surpressing the people in Bahrain is, to my mind, a stark illustration of how the House of Saud regards its fellow Arabs. I think that the only thing which might drive the Saudis to back other Arab states, would be for there to be the the genuine threat of a national uprising, along the lines and size of what we have seen in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya etc. IMO, the Iran that we see today, is a direct result of policies that are perceived by Tehran to be overtly pro Israel, and therefore anti Iranian, being pursued by the US and other western countries.

Granted, Obama is an idiot yes, but he will be totally out-voted if push came to shove in an Israel-Arab situation.
(1) Vast % of US citizens are Jewish heritage – including the Government.
(2) Even larger % of US citizens have a complete dislike of Arabs and their lifestyle…it isn’t just the red-necks.
(3) Number 2 is also applicable to UK, but not in the same Yee-haa way. Ask any Briton, that if a War between the Arab states and Israel started, who would they want to win?
(4) Saudi would be in a peculiar position, given that US and UK do so much dealing with them. It’s not a case of if, but when. Just like China v Japan et al.

If by vast percentage you mean about 5 million adults (or less than 2%), then yes

I very much endorse your comments. Added to which the Obama presidency will be far less accommodating towards its old ally.

Yes you are right; the US has for a long time had caste or had been able to cast a type of Iron curtain b/w Sunnis & Shias [remember the 10 year Iran-Iraq war]….the Israel incursion could eventually destroy this disunity & US will face a dire situation.
IMO the US already had made Iran more versatile domestically in the sense that its two major Sunni enemies are already dismantled…Taliban..Iraqis

Bring it on.
It will be 10-0 to Israel at half-time.

Interesting scenario, but I can’t see it happening.
Admittedly the international community has shown little motivation to do take concrete steps against Israel (rightly or wrongly) over the last few years, that could change radically if they go Empire building and committing blatant genocide.
I doubt the US would be willing to bankrole such an endeavor, and it would seem obvious that the EU, Russia and China would be most displeased.
That said, the situation with Iran is a genuine cause for concern, and could certainly lead to a missile exchange. In such a situation I have no idea who (if any) would come out on top. I can understand how both nations must think they need nuclear arms to guarantee their security, but if the Iranians do get them then it could backfire on them spectacularly, and would likely start a regional arms race.
