Hello, this is my first post here!
I’m not a pilot but have a great interest in aviation and design. I’m a final year student at Coventry University and for my final major project will be designing the cockpit of a 4 seater GA aircraft for the year 2015. I need help from as many GA pilots as possible because i only have 1 hour’s experience in Cessna 172 and quite a lot of time on MS FlightSim 2000/02/04. I need REAL experience from YOU guys! So if you would be kind enough to fill in this short survey, i’d be really greatful. It’ll only take 5 mins.
Follow this link: http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB223ULE6HAHA
If you are interested in helping me more, then e-mail me at cockpitproject@hotmail.com
If you fly from the west midlands and have room for a passenger, let me know!
P.S. if you’re going to bother to leave your name, it helps if you write an e-mail address otherwise i can’t contact you!
ALSO, just incase you wondered, the deadline for this project is Feb 2005 and i will be doing an ergonomic test on a lifesize mock up in January. If you live near Coventry, let me know and you can take part!

I remember, many years ago, reading something in the U.S. equivalent of the “Human Factors” study books on cockpit design, particularly on the pros and cons of analogue versus digital displays on instruments.
Cockpit design, needless to say, has been heavily researched for many years, I am sure there is plenty of litereature on the matter already in existance which would be useful for researach.
Pardon me for being repetitve, but the Royal Aeronautical Society has an extensive library, which I’m sure would be useful.

Hello Mark!
Not being a pilot myself I’m not sure how much I can help, but I can probably point you in the direction of some useful people up at Baginton. What times are you in this week, I am ‘making a case’ for my mDes project (transatlantic ekranoplan 😮 ) in a meeting all Tuesday morning until about half twelve.
Sounds like a good project- glad to help in any way I can 🙂

I have filled in your questionnaire.
If you have not yet discovered the Royal Aeronautical Society, I can highly recommend them as a useful rung on the ladder to furthering your education/career. Go to www.raes.org.uk

17 years ago I briefly worked for the Tiger Club at Redhill. In the cockpit of all their aircraft they had a placard offering the truest bit of advice ever given it said…
