Any Instructors around?

Don’t suppose any one here is a flight instructor? If so, where do you fly from, and what? It’s time for me to realise a dream, or at least save more money 😮 …

I took the Chipmunk (Chippies do woodwork!) all over the place this year, including Yorkshire. Sorry you missed it. I do try to get to all the fly ins possible. There are not too may left now this year. I don’t tend to publicise where I am going in advance for safety reasons. I’m not afraid of stalkers – I’m a danger to them!

I live and work next to Rochester Airport, any one know if this is a good place to start? The airport is always under threat from development of one kind or another, so it would be nice to add to the ‘leave the airport alone’ fund 😡 so to speak. Anyone had any experience from Rochester air schools? Or what would you recommend?

Is R not listening again?

You don’t mean he actually DOES listen sometimes. To be honest I get the impression he only listens when we tell him what he wants to hear.

Hi Janie, being a flight instructor is one thing i would love to be, (would really need to work on getting my PPL first though 🙁 ). i enjoy teaching people to drive and to spray paint (my trade) and if i manage to get my PPL an ratings i would defo be looking for a job as an instructor,
btw are you taking your chippie to any shows this year?. i would love to get a few pics of it to add to my collection (i’m a self confessed chippie nut).
best regards.
Greg

No kids, why not adopt R, and pass on all that wisdom of yours.

I think the do-gooders have banned the time-honoured procedure of giving your kid a good thrashing haven’t they? If so, a big ‘NO’ to the adoption idea.

Is R not listening again?

Usual problem. So keen to show off the extent (!) of his own knowledge that he doesn’t bother to read what else has been written.

Kids. Glad I never had any.

You can also do a PPL instructor rating which allows you to instruct for the NPPL and PPL on a volountary basis. I think those who have gained the rating just use it as a weekend pass time as a weekend instructor for there love of teaching others. (And then the free flying!)

thanks for the info Moggy, thats why i said PPL and ratings, i thought that just he PPL wouldn’t be enough but havn’t looked that deply into becoming an instructor yet as i am still nowhere near even starting for my PPL due to a certain financial situation (called splitting up with a bunny boiler who emptied the bank account)
again thanks for the info

Unfortunately a PPL does not get you anywhere near the qualification you need to be an instructor.

You need a CPL unless you are happy to do the instruction without payment in which case you will need 200hrs PIC and all the CPL examinations passed.

Please please do not become an instructor, unless your primary objective is to help others.

The problem with way too many instructors is that they are not always benevolent pilots who wish to pass their knowledge on to aspiring pilots; they are just folk who want cheap flying.

Please please do not become an instructor, unless your primary objective is to help others. You cannot be blamed for wanting to save money, but it really does not look clever if you admit to it publicly.
