This slightly rude-looking spectacle was seen in Florida earlier in the year. It was the result of a coming-together on approach, both the pilots being low-time, and infact the pilot of the Piper was a student.
The occupant of the Cessna found that he was doing the ‘driving’ and he managed to fly the combination down the approach to a safe landing. The only dilemma was which of the two flying schools to taxi back to.
If nothing else, it reminds us to maintain a look-out, but also highlights the dangers of a low-wing aeroplane catching up with other (initially) lower and slower machines. A few years ago a Starduster ran its wheels across the wing of a J-3 in the circuit at White Waltham, and I am sure that during the war an Anson combo was landed in Canada in much the same way as the shown here.
