Rackheath…(Merged)

Makes ya wonder…

‘Explosion’ on industrial estate near Norwich
Emergency crews are at an industrial estate near Norwich following reports of a loud explosion.

Police, the fire service and paramedics are at Rackheath industrial estate and roads have been sealed off. No further details have been released.

People living in the area contacted the BBC to say they had heard a loud bang and windows shook at about 2115 GMT.

Residents in Blofield, also to the north-east of the city, reported hearing an “explosion”.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said had sent several appliances and was searching the estate and surrounding area.

Aurora Cotten-McKean said on Twitter that the “explosion” was very loud and made her house and windows shake in Salhouse.

ISTR that the watch tower there has been recently rescued. I am hoping it escaped unscathed.

Well it IS historic & aviation related.. 😉 The industrial park is the old tech site.:p

Nor did I. I haven’t googled it, but others here may be aware of its history – if not it’s one for AIX, I suppose. And I had not seen the original thread, so I wasn’t being negative. There might be some mileage in it yet – do not lose hope Richard Gray!;):)

Never realised Rackheath used to have an airfield on it, looking on Google Maps there’s very little of it left now 🙁

What is its particular significance? A relief that no lives were lost, of course.

No idea, best ask ZRX61 he started the thread. (admittedly in wrong place) and as it had 203 views, I just thought that members might be interested in the outcome. So posted it here in general discussion.

Not sure wether, I will bother posting on this forum again, as all I seem to do is get negative replies.

Possibly because apart form it being located on a long dissued airfield it dosen’t have any connection with aviation?

Believed to be exploding gas bottle. No reported injuries but blast damage substantial. I did think it might have been a wartime 500 pounder .
