It certainly will and I don’t believe anyone left the ground after the 4th day feeling anything other than an English win was in the bag. The Ozzie tail has wagged in almost every innings so a decent score from anyone of the tailenders was no surprise. No, the Ozzies were outplayed and yes they are a weak side, but England are now team with depth and I think South Africa and India will prove tougher competition. New Zealand are very poor at the moment and a long way from getting back to their previous heights.
Sri Lanka will be fun this summer but the Indian series starting in August will be the challenge and if we win we will go No 1 in the ICC table.

That’ll do nicely for a convincing win. An innings and 87 runs. 3-1 to us. Is it just me or were Australia just beginning to find their feet in that last innings? I just hope they don’t get complacent in the cricket world cup. It’s one thing beating an off form side but on form sides like South Africa and New Zealand could be an entirely different proposition.

With 3 wickets left and only 154 behind they could still force us to bat again even if only for the sake of a couple of runs.

Pity we couldn’t wrap it us this morning, but it is all over bar the shouting, which means that the dreadful Sprinkler dance will be everywhere by tomorrow morning.
And the highest score by any side in a test series in Australia – and there’ll be a few more good stats to feast on.

We’re making progress but we need to take wickets a bit faster if we want to avoid batting again.

The dreaded Sprinkler Dance….mmmmmm…..

They’ll be doing the old rain dance around the SCG tonight, that’s for sure.

488 for 7 – looking good.:D

Looking at the figures this morning I fear I may have been a little premature but I still think we can do it. Ideally we can do it without having to go to a second innings as that is just more scope for it to go for a ball of chalk. Oh take no notice of me I’ve lost the plot. I forgot that Australia still have to have their second innings anyway so all I can hope is that we leave them chasing a big deficit. Last I heard we were 296 for 5 or 6 so that might even happen yet.

Dangerous words or wishful thinking? The 5th test could yet be snaffled from us or drawn, and although we have retained the Ashes we will not have won the series and that is just as important.

We’re on our way to a convincing win – on yhe Aussies turf, that’s going to get up their noses somewhat:diablo:

Probably even Stevens after the first day at the SCG but let’s hope the rain doesn’t have the last word. The forecast is mixed for the next 4 days…………

I noticed today it was ‘fancy dress day’ at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Moggy
Yes, some people had turned up dressed as cricketers.

Top man, Stormbird. 🙂
The same to you, mate.
By: Sky High - 29th December 2010 at 11:26
Thanks, Stormbird!:) And one thing’s for sure – you’ll have your day again….there’s certainly been some great cricket and in Johnson, Siddle, Haddin and Watson as well as Hussey, if he keeps going and Katich when he returns, you have a good core of players.
Here’s to a great match at Sydney.
Happy New Year!:)

I think, hype apart, that England have deserved to win as they are, on balance the better team. And hopefully they will go on to win the Series in Sydney. To invert Ricky Ponting’s remark – 3:1 sounds much better than 2:2.

Done ! Well played boys. 😀

That, of course, is absolutely true but it is not an ethic with which many Australians have much sympathy.
Strange to relate, several Aussies of my acquaintance said almost exactly that when we won the Ashes last time. 😀
