No, you are both right. Wilfred said “……Barney” originally because Barney Colehan was the show’s producer. Later when his wife Mabel joined the show it became ….Mabel”.

Memory can play tricks sometimes.

Maybe you’re right.

…and Violet Carson played the piano on Wilfred’s show! – regrettably I remember it only too well!! Pickles’ daughter is Carolyn Pickles, the actress and I think his sister is also an actress.

That was his catch phrase, but still can’t think of the program name.

It was Have A Go.

And the phrase was “Give him the money, Barney“.

Good grief! How did I know that? 😮

My 94 y.o. mother says it was “Have a Go” and I have to agree. How did the theme song go ‘ ‘ave a go, Joe, you gotta ‘ave a go’, etc etc.

My God, that’s going back a bit. I used to enjoy listening to Wilf on the radio. Can’t remember his wife’s name though, nor the name of his program. Can you?

He was quite a character.
He was the nephew of Wilfred Pickles, who you’re probably not old enough to remember.
