Right, now I’ve got the tailwheel rating nailed, I’m after any and all advice on how to carry on having tailwheel fun but at reduced costs. What are you flying at the moment, I’m all ears!!

I’ve bought a share in an Emeraude. It’s the CAP 10’s older sister, kind of, except it’s not aerobatic. As the seller described it, it handles like a Chipmunk/Spitfire in the air and a petrified animal on the ground. I can certainly vouch for the ground handling 🙂 It’s not at all fond of crosswinds. You know why they’re called crosswinds, don’t you?

Hey, Steve, well done on going solo in the Cub 😀

Cheers mate, most grin-worthy half hour I’ve had for blimmin ages!

The Tiger Moth’s great fun, but it does cost three times the hourly rate of my new pride and joy! (Which also has the little wheel in the correct place.)

I can’t remember anything about my air law exam, save it being gently pointed out to me after my first solo that club rules said you had to do the exam before your first solo. So I did it there and then, and somehow I passed. I blame too much time reading LASORS and the ANO.

A useful tip for the nav exam: take a protractor and ruler with you. I didn’t. That’s why they put compass roses on the VORs, and nm markings on the lat/long lines. (Which ones would you use when measuring a nautical mile: one degree of latitude, or one of longitude?)

Second tip. Make sure it’s got a battery attached, and that you know the number of the CAA so that you can call them and tell them our favourite space cadet’s been giving you dodgy ideas… 😉

That’s alright Melv, if mine’s anything to go by, she’ll annoy the living hell out of him first.

Antonov Biscuits (fabulous name by the way mate, may I ask what you were smoking…?) – give her the box set of Friends to watch, then self test yourself using the PPL Confuser. And remember to read the question thouroughly, sometimes the question is posed in such a way as to direct you towards the wrong answer just to see if you’re paying attention. 😉

And definitely do NOT annoy the girlfriend, at least until the exam is over.

Atonov

I assume you have used and read the PPL Confuser? invaluable for the exams, it was a while ago since i did it but it isnt THAT difficult, its just very mundane, i cant really remember many of the questions the exam contained offhand but just make sure you are pretty clued up on things like signals, night flying, what the apron is, who has right of way, medical & licence validations etc and you should be ok, there is nothing in there to catch you out

Good luck, let us know how you went
