When I visited Albania in the 80s, Norman had a great fan base in that country as his were the only foreign comedy films permitted. It was still possible at that time to see his films in the cinemas there as well as on their TV. I believe that he was given an award by the Albanians some time during the 90s.

Thank you Norman, the guy who made the grey suits in Tirana giggle, for all the laughs and happiness you gave us over the years….May you truly rest in peace.

What greater compliment can one receive than to be called the Greatest Clown of all time by the late Great Charlie Chaplin

I don’t watch news or buy a paper and I’ve only just heard this news off the better half.
I feel a part of my upbringing has gone. Not only did he install into me a sense of humour which has got me through some bad times, but as said above, a genuine warm gent.
And, don’t forget he had a singing voice worthy of far more credit.

I would be surprised if anyone has a bad word to say about this warm, funny, gentle man. I recall a marvellous interview double act, a few years ago, with him and Rick Wakeman, neighbours on the Isle of man, exuding humour and mutual appreciation. If he is revered here just think how his death will be greeted in Albania!!
