I managed to drag myself away from all the excitement at Southend for a evening trip at London City. I had been planning to do this trip for several months, however things were complicated by the use of Runway 09 and some very annoying thin cloud making the light less striking.
It was still a very good evening, as I got every airline which flies into London City, so there was some nice variety. Here’s a selection of my photos and I hope these are of interest.
Departing to Edinburgh. Surprised to catch this, as I thought they had been all painted over.

The most ‘interesting’ approach of the evening. Only at London City….

As the light made its way round, unfortunately thin cloud almost took away the sunshine completely. A fantastic livery nonetheless on this Blue Island ATR.

As the light started to improve one of my favourites, the Skywork Dash 8 (in place of the scheduled Dornier).

And the nice little British Airways (operated by Sunair) Dornier 328, the only prob version in the fleet.

One of the many Fokker arrivals. Although they look smart, it;s certainly not a patch on the old VLM livery.

And finally the Lufthansa Regional Q400.

I hope these were of some interest, and not too boring.

Thanks again for all of your comments, they are much appreciated. I agree with you Cloud_9 about the BA Saab, it does look great, and I wouldn’t have guessed such a thing would ever exist last year. Really appreciate your feedback. Many thanks.

Great photos. I have a special fondness for LCY, so thanks for sharing.

I must say that has to be best bunch of photos from London City I have ever seen, well done and thanks for sharing!:)
Alitalia’s E190 certainly looks really smart…it would be nice to see at LHR instead of A320 family aircraft all the time!
I too agree the SkyWork livery is really nice on the Dash 8; but not so keen on their Dornier!;)
Nice to see a full on picture of BA’s new Saab 2000 a/c; I know it’s leased from T3, but the BA livery suits it!

Many thanks for all of your comments, I’m glad these were of interest. I have to say I am surprised by the response. The place certainly is good for both photography and traffic, and certainly would recommend visiting. If so do be mindful of the banks of departures, with the early mornings and evenings being by far the best time to go. Still nice to see otherwise unusual airlines and types.

Some great photos their.
I always enjoy a trip to London City during the morningn or evening peak times – as the photos show so well, there is a wide variety of traffic that can often be difficult to see elsewhere.

Nice selection of shots there. As Culpano said above, maybe go there for a few hours on my annual exodus down south next year, looking for some variety now.
Cheers,
Mark

And a good variety of international registrations there, a worthwhile trip! 🙂

Great shots! I really like SkyWork’s livery on the Q400!!

They are not boring at all – they are excellent. I must pay that airport a visit instead of struggling with the less than ideal sun angle at Heathrow. Lots of variety there and some nice “doubles”. Good stuff.
