My link (removed by Mod) was to a non-commercial website, not selling anything, which was nothing more than a reference guide for the traveller. Tips such as how to pack clothing, suitable bags for one bag travel and so on. This was deemed as advertising. I have no connection to the site in question other than finding it while looking for a suitable lightweight carry-on bag for myself. I am sure if I trawled through the forums I could find numerous examples of links to websites which are of a commercial nature (one jumps to mind – started by a Mod…), but I have better things to do with my time. Such as continuing to look for a lightweight, versatile carry-on bag……

Mods: Perhaps the use and structure of the English language has changed since I left education but I for one would like to know how a subjective opinion may be deemed as advertising……

Might as well pull the thread then! Actually, by the same measure, the entire board may be deemed to be in breach of this arbitrary rule.

Definately hard shell type and a strap around ,old string ,nylon tow rope or similar!!Mid range not the samsonite class!No towing handle ,they break of as do wheels!!You can buy a seperate carry trolley .I used an old compressed cardboard one for years with those ratchet hinges and it was repaired twice with fibreglass tape ,had reinforced corners,wish I could find another like it,60s vintage!!!

Don’t rely on anything held shut by a zip:

a) baggage handlers are wreckers – always have strap around your case.

b) zips can be easily undone on a soft bag – even when padlocked to and end clip – just try it! Best way to foil potential thieves is to stuff your soft bag absolutely full – problem is, you may incur additional charges if you max-out on the payload before you bulk-out!

I have a couple of nice ‘hard-shell’ Tryp-brand cases but always use a strap passed through the carry-handle – I’m a belt and braces man!!!!!:D

I wouldn’t bother with expensive luggage. It becomes a pilfering target.

Better by far (IMHO) to buy cheap and treat as disposable.

You might want to consider fabric luggage. Handlers usually hate the hard shell ones, and more than often, I’ve seen 2 half shells arriving on the belt, with a couple of clothes here and there..
