Hi all,
I don’t know about you, but when I’m wandering around airshows I’m always very envious of the stuff churned out by aviation artists. My skills don’t run to being able to do the sunsets and cloudscapes behind aircaft that come so easily to the likes of Coulson and others, but I do tend to doodle quite a bit (more so when bored).
Some of them turn out better than others.
I wondered… it can’t be just me? Surely others started drawing Spitfires chasing 109’s on the page of the diary that’s unused or the scrap paper next to the telephone.
Anyway, here’s mine that happened this afternoon (I know – I should have been working… :rolleyes: ) Excuse the pic quality, it’s off the camera on my phone.
Lets see what you lot doodle.. even if you think they’re crap. Grab your crayolas, your circular piece of paper, and present what you’ve got!

What was always difficult for me in art classes (Yes, I did. I failed..) was coming to realise that while a rough drawing in pencil has an outline, objects in real life don’t!
I get more enjoyment from doodles, as they’re not serious. Blue_2 has just set me off drawing a Victor, but I don’t have a pen the right shade of hemp to colour it.

having problems posting images lately as i have no p.c. at home
i oil paint and yes there is absolutely loads to pick up to make skies and landscapes look convincing ( the planes the easy part !! )
a lot is done by good colour / shapes observation coupled with good tone observation and many blending techniques
( that only a lot of practice will bring out !! )
but on doodles , my latest was a cheeky tom cat viewed from the rear with tail up showing all ( as cats do !! ) whilst looking back with a smile and winking
done as a commision for a friend !!
