I’ve noticed that there is quite a few F1 fans around here, so I thought I’d make a new thread.
Best of the newbies and best of the oldies, who’s choice of the new teams & drivers, old & new? I’ll start it off.
For the best new driver, I have to say Kamui Kobayashi. He’s been very consistent, aggressive but fair, very quick and for a new driver to F1, he looks very relaxed behind the wheel of an F1 car. I say, he’s the one to watch out for in the future.
For the best new team, I have to say Lotus. They’re the best of the new teams, even though they haven’t scored any points yet they’re quite consistent in terms of finishes, the car looks very good handling wise & looks steady as a rock, (compare the way it looks to the Virgin car and HRT car which frankly, looks awful), looks to have ok(ish) qualifying & race pace dispite the lack of power. For their first year back in many years, they look very good dispite where they are and already, they’re working on the 2011 car, the first team to do so if I recall.
Now the hard bit…best of the oldies.
Best driver(s) I think I might have to say its a toss up between:
Fernando Alonso
Felipe Massa (Ignoring the fiasco in Germany between these too although not entirely their fault)
Jenson Button
Rubens Barrichello
and possibly even Jarno Trulli
These five drivers I’ve chosen have around 10 years experience each, give or take a year or two with Rubens being the most experienced, all have shown great determination, driving skill and showing, most of the time, they have a wise head on their shoulders.
Choosing one of these five is quite tough having watched them all just this year, the likes of Jenson has had an ok year as has Rubens, (he beat the Stig :D), Felipe has had a better year than I’d though because of his accident last year, Jarno has been consistent, but I’m afraid I have to go with my heart on this one, best of the oldies is probably Fernando for me. Dispite Germany, I think he’s done quite well and he’s slowly catching up with the leaders. Just in my opinion.
Best oldie team. Probably Ferrari, and again, dispite Germany. For me, of the old teams they’ve been the most consistent and most promising, they’ve got a lot more to show this season and I think they’re the team Red Bull and Mclaren ought to start worrying about. Just a shame they messed up big time at Hockenheim.
I could have said Mclaren as the best oldie team this year, but I suspect that they haven’t really been as convincing as a lot of people think they are, most of the time its just because of the mistakes of Red Bull and even Ferrari to some extent that they’ve got to where they are now.
Its not as easy as I thought it would be to come up with this thread, theres drivers & teams like Webber, Vettel, Schumacher, Hamilton-Renault, Red Bull, Sauber etc, so I just thought I’d keep it simple and go for the oldest & newest.
Kind regards
Sorry if I’ve ranted on a bit. 😀

To answer the question though, I agree with Kobayashi being the best of the new drivers and Lotus being the best new team (although I disagree with the HRT car being ugly).
Sorry I should have explained it a little better. I mean’t as in handling wise. The Lotus looks really good through the corners especially when you see the onboard footage of the car, it just looks at home. Where as the HRT car looks so ragged & awkward, the drivers seem to be fighting with it even on the slow corners, I’ll feel sorry for the drivers when Spa is next, especially on eau rouge.
Its quite a good looking car though, the HRT. Looks quite evil & menacing. As of looks, the Lotus is my favourite looking, can’t wait until theres a model of it released.
If Kobayashi goes the way he’s going now, providing he gets the right support, management, teams etc then he’s someone to watch out for, this chap definitely has something going for him, he’s a racing driver through & through and if I owned one of the top teams, Red Bull, Ferrari, Mclaren & all, I’d be keeping an eye on him for a seat.

Can’t say I agree with Ferrari being consistent this season, they’ve been anything but from what I’ve seen. 1-2 finish at the start and then absolutely nowhere for the rest of the season until suddenly popping back up for another 1-2 in Germany.
To answer the question though, I agree with Kobayashi being the best of the new drivers and Lotus being the best new team (although I disagree with the HRT car being ugly).
Best of the old drivers? Hard to say because I only started watching F1 occassionally in 2009 and properly following it this season but from what I’ve seen and heard of previous races I’d have to go with Barichello. Consistently one of the best drivers who’s never had that bit of luck every champion needs to become champion. The same applies to Webber too, although I’d put Rubens on top as a matter of opinion.
Jarno Trulli, I don’t know about that. I’ve had a large dislike for him since he threw all his toys out of the pram at Sutil last year, despite the incident being entirely Trulli’s fault.
Best of the old teams? Red Bull obviously have the fastest car through the corners, their downforce package being so much more advanced than everyone elses, but I think in the next few races we’ll see McLaren come back into it with the long straights and slow corners that play to McLaren’s advantages and away from Red Bull’s (high speed corners). So I’ll throw my hat in with McLaren.
As for a new section, the future superstars of the sport. I think that Hamilton and Vettel will go down as 2 of the best drivers in F1 history.

Kobayashi – agree
Lotus agree (for nostalgic reasons, mainly, but nice looking car and colour scheme)
Webber best of the oldies – overcoming obvious bias in favour of his team-mate(?)
Red Bull (for qualli) – otherwise McClaren for plugging away with a poor qualifier but still near the top of the pile

Newbies
Kobayashi. and Chanduk [sp] The Indian driver
Agree with Lotus
Oldies
Lewis Hamilton Ok only been in F1 a few years but what an impact and always making F1 watchable
Jenson Button for his perseverence, got to the top in the end.
Mark Webber great driver and seemingly a down to earth guy.
Phillipe Massa held back by F*@*%i IMHO
and Reubens Barrichello same as Massa really
As for old teams
Mclaren been there done that with great drivers
Williams their time will come again
Red Bull Finally got their chance to shine but watch them throw it away [ Famous last words there. ]
Fe**a*i dont make me laugh,… aah but they do. Had some great drivers but a shocking team even before this year and also schuv-overs reign. only MO mind you.
