Shame about the weather really 🙁 as they put on quite a nice little do.
We managed (after being patient) to get SWMBO’s mother a quick flight which she thoroughly enjoyed! Big grin from start to finish 😀 Not bad for a lady in her seventies.
Had a long chat with Lucy from Northampton School of Flying – learnt a lot about transitioning between NPPL and JAA PPL either during training or post training. What I didn’t know was that any post NPPL P1 hours count towards a full JAA PPL subject to medical – is this right? I got the impression that with a further 10 hours, medical and GST one can move on from the NPPL. I’m open to correction here! This makes the NPPL a far more attractive proposition to a pauper such as myself….
The only other bit of handy info was from a Chipmunk pilot – his group flies at £35/hour and £40/month with a 7k joining fee (assume there’s an engine fund in there somewhere as well) with 8 shares. Seemed jolly reasonable to me! However (and there always is one) the minimim hour requirement was 75 hours + (or including) 10 hours taildragger experience. This is a requirement of the insurance. Was it Steve looking at group flying? Anyhow it occured to me that the groups advertised in the comics are probably at the high end and there are friendlier, cheaper deals lurking around in the old boy networks. A good assumption or not?
Good day out and a very friendly bunch – hope they arrange it for a non Wimbledon week next year.

😀
The weather on Saturady was awful for gliding so my visit to the Welland GC event at Lyveden near Corby was somewhat abortive. Fortunately they had both weekend days and Sunday was fabulous. Popped in again with our Skybolt and there were many happy looking trial lesson folk enjoying their flights. Its a small voluntary set-up that operates generally at the weekend but their airfield is great and so is the equipment. You pays your money and takes your choice. I am joining Welland especially since it is only 12 miles from home.

PS – They even invited me to do an aeros practice on the dead side on departure back to Leicester – my pleasure.
