Ten suspected Somali pirates captured by the Russian navy last week may have perished after their release, a defence source in Moscow has told reporters.
Marines seized them during a dramatic operation to free a hijacked Russian oil tanker far from shore, killing an 11th suspect in the gun battle.
They were released in an inflatable boat without navigational equipment.
Within an hour, contact was lost with the boat’s radio beacon, the defence source said.
“It seems that they all died,” the unnamed source was quoted as saying by Russia’s Interfax news agency.
It was quite likely the Russian ship lost radar contact with the boat after an hour, while the signal from the beacon would depend on the strength of its battery and whether or not it could be detected by satellite…
…and whether or not the Russians ran them down with a 12,000 tonne nuclear-powered battle-cruiser! :diablo:

Perhaps they’d float better with more lifejackets and fewer AK-47’s, RPG’s, etc… Just a thought… 😉

and I hear no outcry from Amnesty International etc !
Why would you expect one?
Small boats and their crews are mysteriously lost at sea every day. 😎

Was it a myth, that when the hostages were taken in Beruit, that as well as the British, American and French hostages, one or more Russians were taken as well? The French did a deal and got their man back, the US hostage ended up in Iran and killed IIRC, and the British/Irish story is well known.
The Russians I recall reading, took their own hostage from the local Hezbollah and offered to send him back in pieces unless they got their man back? It may be nonsense, but follows the same logic as the pirate “Incident”.

They’ll not rush to go pirating again, either way…

To quote Battery Sergeant Major Tudor Brynne Williams:
“Oh dear.
How sad.
Never mind.”
