Landing fees and Jeppesen Charts

Hello,

I intend to fly from France (Albertville, LFKA) to the Isle of Man at the beginning of July. Could someone provide me with the landing fees of some of the more friendly aerodromes that I will cross on my way. Can I also get LL100 at these aerodromes?

How many airports/aerodromes are there on the isle of Man?

I also intend to buy the Jeppesen charts (EG2 and EG3). How good are they?

Thank you for your help

Pierre-Philippe

PS. I do have a site that you may consult if you are interested in flying in the Alps.

He is going to the Isle of Man not the Isle of Wight, so handy though it may be that there are two airfields there, I don’t believe he will be needing them.

Dont use Jep’s I made that mistake.

Isle of weight has two aerodromes.

WARNING: Jeps charts don’t have several u.k aerodromes on them. (Small but there there!)

Use ICAO

I would suggest your best choice for a landing in the UK prior to heading for the IOM is Blackpool (EGNH)

Liverpool (EGGP) was my first choice but it looks as if the landing fee will be around 65 euro with the compulsory handling.

At Blackpool it will be more like 25 euro.

Fuel, Special Branch and Customs are all available. (I take no responsibility for this information – I am sure you will check it with the field before departure)

At 250nm from Cherbourg it is almost certainly a manageable leg. If you have fuel problems with such a distance do ask again and I’ll try and find an intermediate for you.

Best regards

I think so.

Again, I really need to be at home for this, but I seem to recall that the last time I flew from England to Ireland, which is subject to the same Special Branch requirements, I landed at Liverpool Airport, cleared customs and notified Special Branch in person just half an hour or so before departure.

Since you will be probably e-mailing them yourself it might be a good idea to talk to the two flying clubs on the airfield. They will have up to date information.

Free landing fees? If you find them in the UK perhaps you could let me know? 😮

Moggy,

Thank you very much for answering my message. I had a quick look at the web site of the isle of Man and will contact the aeroclub by phone or e-mail.

I intend to take the longer route to cross the Channel. Most likely I will be leaving France around Cherbourg and then head towards South West England. I am also interested in landing at aerodromes where the landing fees are not too expensive (unlike Italy for instance) and more like Canada (free most of the time).

I have taken good note of the custom requirements. I am not sure that I understood one point. Can I leaving from a designated airport in England, tell the the Special Branch a few hours before landing at the Isle of Man that I am arriving. My issue is that I would like to leave Albertville and do the trip all at once: flying over France, the Channel, land at a designated airport and then head towards the Isle of Man. by the way, I shall be going with a friend who has family. Does it make any difference?

Take care

More information.

There is just one airport on Isle of Man. The GA information can be found here:

Pierre-Philippe

A brief reply for now, and then a more complete one once I have returned home and looked at some reference books.

Can you first confirm the route you will take across the Channel (La Manche)?

Will you take the short route Cap Gris Nez > Dover, or would you be braver and take a longer overwater flight?

GA friendly airfields should not be a problem. Equally you will have no trouble buying 100LL and paying for it with a credit card.

The main issue will be Customs and Special Branch clearance.

We are not fully part of Schengen. It will be necessary for you to make your first landing at an aerodrome in the UK where Customs can be present. Though this can mean any almost aerodrome with prior notice, it will probably be simpler to land at a field where Customs are already based.

For reasons relating to Irish Terrorism you will find it is necessary to give Special Branch (an arm of the police) 24 hours notice of your flight from the UK mainland to the Isle of Man. This can be made more simple by leaving from a designated airfield. Again I have no information available here, but should be able to find this out from home.

The CAA maps are much better than the Jeppesen.

Best regards

Moggy
