I noticed that one of the flying schools mensioned here require this medical and i’m shure others do also but could anyone inform me of what this includes?

Moggy,
I suspected there might have been some changes. I’ve been completely out of the loop as far as GA is concerned – the last time I flew was in June 2001.
Change in circumstances (job) mean’t I couldn’t continue with my PPL training.

Hi Darren.
I’ll think you’ll find there has been one small amendment to these rules.
The 65+ have reverted to annually.

Mine cost £110 back in 2001 but as the Doctor is/was our company doctor he gave me a £10 discount bless him 🙂 so a classII for £100, not bad eh 😉

We’ve got two in the area.
The AME I use is a keen GA man, who was also a member of the local flying club.
The other AME in the area is primarily used by commercial pilots, he also happens to be our Company Doctor along with most other commercial operators in ABZ, and was a little more expensive than the other one – about £170 for an initial Class 2, back in 2000, IIRC.
Its more than likely that the prices have changed in the last four years.

To be honest, it depends where you go, how many AME’s there are in the local area… all the usual market forces. My initial med two and a half years ago was about 130 if I remember rightly, and my renewal was 80 last December. Different AME’s (the renewal was a short notice one – got it done on the morning of my QXC!)

Apologies for butting in…..a lurker here…….
I’m amazed at how much cheaper your medicals are ‘south of the border’. When I did my initial Class 2, four years ago it was £160!!

So Moggy , if it is every 5 years is that you covered until you are 70 now 😀

30-40 is every two years for JAA class two; that’s a lesson I had to learn in a hurry the day before my QXC!
Ah, the old cough and drop. Thankfully I didn’t have to do that on my renewal, and come to think of it the ECG lasts for longer than the standard two year term as well. Can’t remember how long the ECG is valid for offhand though.

Yup it does , six pads stuck to your chest for 30 seconds and cost me £90. Ripoff.

Doesn’t an initial medical also include an ECG?
hehe
And come to think of it Moggy now you said I do vaguely recall being wired up to an ECG monitor, cos it bloody hurt when he ripped off the pads 😀 LOL

its dependant on age
I cant remember the exact ages without looking it up (alarm set downstairs now so will clarify in the morning) but its something like up to the age of 30 its every 5 years, from 30-40 its every 3 yrs, from 40-50 its 2 years and 50+ its every year
If someone knows any different before I can look it up feel free to correct me 🙂
Dean.

How long before you have to renew these then?
