The massive earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday may have shifted the Earth’s axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.
The change is negligible, but permanent: Each day should be 1.26 microseconds shorter, according to preliminary calculations. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.

And the story deserved all our efforts……..

Hell life’s too short not to! 😀

Unfortunately, you guys wasted more than the time you’d gain over a lifetime responding to this 😀

It was nearly light outside, when I got up this morning but I automatically switched on the light, thereby wasting electricity, because there was no Met Office warning that it was getting light earlier.

Well that’s a relief, I’d have hated to be caught out by some darkness creeping up on me unexpectedly at the end of the day! 😀

So how come the Met office have just issued a early darkness warning for tomorrow night??
If I may ask, “A WHAT?”
Seems to me people would be able to tell by opening their eyes, but I know that people are wholly incapable of helping themselves anymore, so I am not really surprised.

Probably about .42 microseconds if you assume you normally sleep for 8 hours/day
IF (:o) I’ve done my calculations correctly then this means that we will loose a day every 188 years (rounded), so do we need to have a new type of leap year every 188 years? It’s something they need to think about, otherwise, after about 17,300 years, Spring will end up in summer, summer in winter..etc etc. That’d just be confusing:eek:
OK, so I realised I got the calculation wrong as I was using full seconds, not microseconds.

I’m going to be losing a lot of sleep over this:eek::rolleyes::D

Work out your microsecond rate to see how much pay you’ll lose per year!:D

Life changing then. 😀

Knowing my boss, I’l still work the same length of time, but will get 1.26 microseconds less in bed!
