Exotic Airliners at Southend

A very busy weekend at Southend for maintenance movements. Just a shame the weather has been so awful. However I much prefer bad weather and interesting movements than good weather and nothing at all.

First up on Saturday was Aero Contractors of Nigeria 737 returning home via Casablanca.

Lots of spray on departure

Only 10 minutes later, an Air Astana 757 departed back to Almaty after maintenance.

In the afternoon came the Bingo Airways A320 doing an acceptance test flight. A pretty awful livery, but it’s something different…

And finally the star catch, if not the most interesting movement of the year so far. Ecuadorian carrier Aero Gal, HC-CIY arriving from Bogota via Halifax, still wearing full livery despite having been stored for 2 years. It’s destined for Jet2, where it should become G-LSAN.

I hope these are of interest to some!

Thanks for all of you comments. The problem with Southend is that you can wait weeks for an interesting maintenance movement, and then you get several in quick secession!

The AeroGal 757 was really great. I new it was destined for Jet2 and where therefore it was coming from, but did not expect to see it in full livery, as it had been stored for over two years.

~Alan~ – I’m afraid you may have seen the Bingo inbound from its airtest at that time. If so it was making a very distinctive noise since it’s RAT was deployed.

Great set of photos of interesting visitors, I am glad to see that Southend is still turning up visitors of note. It was always an interesting place to visit, all the way back to the 1960s for me and before I am sure. Great to see its revival.

Oh boy, that AeroGal 757 alone would have made me drive to southend never mind the rest 😀

I agree that these movements are worth photographing in any weather.
