Wife nearly did too!
At dinner tonight (Party for my daughters 1st), I did the old Tommy Cooper trick. Secret a grape in your mouth, drop a grape into the empty party hat, plonk hat on head, spit out grape. (Tommy used Ping-pong balls)
He was gobsmacked for 20 seconds, so I did it again, he laughed so much he wet his pants bless him. Wifey had never seen the trick either, she could hardly draw a breath!
Just a funny to end the weekend.

It slightly annoys me when I get Emails of TC one liners, most of which were not his. Even though they are amusing, they are not his.
These were:
The wife and I cleared out the attic. We found a Stradivarius and a Rembrandt.
I took them to an antique dealer but it was no use. Rembrandt made rotten violins and Stradivari could hardly paint at all.
Wythenshawe? My first serious girlfriend (Late 1960s) came from there. I will always have fond memories – probably better than the place deserves.

She apparently performed there at a function for US servicemen about to depart for home in 1947.
It’s hard to believe, but it was a highly respectable establishment at one time.

Mind you, Ella Fitzgerald once sang at The Benchill.
Get OUTTA Here!!
I do know Wythy all too well. Went out with a Baguley lass for a decade.

The “Garter” is a bingo club now.
Used to be quite an upmarket venue at one time.
Mind you, Ella Fitzgerald once sang at The Benchill.
Anyone who knew Wythenshawe in the 70s and 80s will know just how remarkable a statement that actually is!

I saw TC live in Wythenshawe “Golden Garter”, twice. Is that flea pit still going?
I think I have seen all his TV shows, including the final.
One of my all time favourites, I can never tire of watching him. A perfectionist in every way, even the ad-libs. A clip from 1962 could be played alongside the same trick done in 1980 and the ad-libs and moves were spot on time.
And he was of course in the inner sanctum of the Magic Circle, and I loved his double-whammy tricks where he got it wrong on purpose only to be “Surprised” by the object appearing in a place it shouldn’t have been.
It slightly annoys me when I get Emails of TC one liners, most of which were not his. Even though they are amusing, they are not his.
These were: –
“I was in the attic with the wife…..filthy;dirty;covered in cobwebs…….but she’s great with the kids”.
“I backed a Horse at 10 to 1, it came in a half past 4………………..it was so late it had to tip-toe back to the stables”.

Will do, but the performance in Cambridge is not till Easter Monday so I’d guess it won’t be much help to you in the immediate future.

Moggy, can you post whether ‘Just Like That’ is any good once you’ve seen it please? Toying with going when it gets to my neck of the woods…

I agree, Joey. A born master of his art. 🙂
I also had the privilege of meeting him, and what a lovely bloke he was!

I will be very interested to hear what you think of him. I don’t rate him much as an actor but perhaps being TC is different. I was lucky enough to see the great man a few times and to meet him as well, so I have especially fond memories of him. In fact as I type this I am smiling just thinking about him. Not many comedians can raise laughter by walking on to a stage and standing quite still, just looking.

I’m shortly off to see a stage show “Just Like That” in which Clive Mantle reproduces the great man’s act.
I hope it isn’t too much of a disappointment. Then never having seen TC live, it is as good as it gets.
