Belgium investigates head-on rail collision

Those paler ones have different coloured seats, I have sometimes seen them (and travelled on them) on the Brussels-Brussels Airport service instead of the more usual types on that run. I have it on reliable information that the refurbished ones have a slightly higher speed than the red ones (I heard that from someone who drove Belgian trains, I assume he meant the refurbished ones were the repainted ones).

Might be, but I’m not exactly sure what the update is… At least in the passenger area.
I was more thinking that they just repaint them that way when the red paint peels off / is covered with too much graffiti for the ones driving around Brussels.

I thought that the grey one was an updated version of the red one?

Both trains are the same, just different paintjobs. And, there have been other collisions like that, in that area if my memory serves me right. (Note that I’m not saying that the Belgian Railway is unsafe)

Awful news 🙁 I travel alot by train in Belgium (I travel on more Belgian trains in a year than British ones!) and have travelled on that line, and on both types of train which crashed. Belgium generally has a very good record with railway safety, and this news was a huge shock.

Very sad indeed. Rest In Peace, people. 🙁
