Economy the same as when Porridge started

Take a look at the first episode of Porridge. Fletcher (Ronnie) makes a statement about the economy from 0:30 to 0:50. Has anything changed between then and now? (Except that he has passed on).

Porridge, episode 1

Why change to Flygirl? In fact, why were you Plane Space?

My handle respects an E24 BMW 6 series, the E34 5 series and the E32 7 series. All before BMW was Bangled.

Thanks to computer speed, the economy can crash in a lunch-break.

Why oh why oh why oh why did he not do another 200 episodes of Porridge. It’s successor (Going straight) was never as good.

Yes we hardly have any industry/manufacturing left (originally mostly lack of long term investment ?),and thanks to thatcher we have no home grown high quality coal industry.
As I said a little while ago…the ‘balance of payments’ (import v export) was a regular feature on the news…funny old thing…never gets mentioned these days, must be horrendous !!
