Bad News for Sheffield Airport

From the Sheffield airport website:

National announcements have been made following the Governments proposed plans for air transport over the next 30 years. To this, detailed plans have been unveiled for the future use of the land within the Sheffield City Airport boundaries. This includes shortening the runway near to Tinsley Park Cemetery and building industrial, commercial and residential properities up to the present TNS building on the business park. The buildings height will be measured under the decent slope and would drastically shorten the runway to 640m. Most operators established at the airport will still be able to continue flying with this length of runway but have expressed concerns about safety.

If you wish to comment on the plans, please use the title “future plans yes” or “future plans no” on your email and email to enquiry@sheffieldcityairport.com

I think that this could be a good idea, many G.A pilots like Sheffield just how it is and ever since commercial sceduled traffic has gone the airport has made up for its lack of commercial traffic, its a popular destination for many PPLS alike.

Ga traffic would cope with the runway being cut, some commercial traffic wont but then again many who are based there dont want commercial to come back.

Read the latest report in todays pilot about the airport.

Then again what do I know;)
