ppl log book issue

hi,
about 4 yrs i started my PPL

my log book has 61 hrs P.u/t (student) and 7.5 hrs P.1(solo).

unfortunately i was unable to complete my PPL due to a relatively short-term medical problem.

i now wish to do the NPPL.

my question is this (and maybe uk relevant only)

does anyone know if any of the above mentioned hrs. ‘count” licence-wise, or will i have to start with a clean new log book.

my old flying school has since demised.

any comments kindly appreciated,

zonto.

Agree with the other chaps… that is a shed load of hours to have clocked up (double to where im up to) and amounts to a fair wad of cash and a lot of experience. Hope you get ’em counted and sorted.

I had the same dilemma re NPPL vs JAR PPL in June when I started.. I guess it depends what your future intentions are.

Whats the score for flying to Ireland as I see youre based in the north.. guess need the JAR PPL ?

Zonto.

Your answer seemed a little ‘prickly’. If I upset you in some way I do apologise, that was not my intention.

The point of my post was to garner some more information, before I started putting forward my view that you would be better to persevere with a ppl, so that I didn’t upset you if this was impractical because of some medical problem.

My view is that you would be better to persevere with the ppl because you already have well enough hours so will not benefit from the ‘shorter’ NPPL course. Once you’ve discounted a less strict medical and a lower ‘minimum hours’ there are no advantages to the NPPL and a lot of drawbacks as Mike has listed.

All your existing hours should count, but if the flying club has demised I could see that might cause a problem or two.

Go straight to the horses mouth. Write to the CAA and ask them. If you need the address, just ask again.

The dwarves? Nothing to do with you, just a signature I’ve been using for a couple of months. I’ll leave it off this one if you like.

Hi Zonto,

A very good reason to go for a JAA PPL is that the NPPL restricts you to day VFR in UK airspace only whic rules out overseas touring, a maximum of four POB and 2000Kg MAUW which puts some very nice machinery out of your options

moggy c,

thank you for your reply but you did not answer my question.
(see ‘ppl log book issue’)

i will however answer yours.

1) why not?

2) no.

3) what have ‘dwarfs’ got to do with it?

anyway, i have better things to spend my money on.

Why an NPPL and not a JAA PPL?

Do you have a medical problem?

Hiya,

All the hours count as far as I know. I recently gained my PPL and included in my hours was a 1 hour introduction flight from over 5 years ago. Any exams you took will not still be curent and will have to be taken again.

Best regards

Keith
