That is a shame, “Breaker Morant” always springs to mind for me although of course he did countless others, I just found it very touching when the two soldiers hold hands on the way to be shot.

Another fine actor gone. At this rate we soon won’t have any good ones left.
How very true…although you couldn’t tell the young people of today…they regard Bruce Willis and Arnie and his friend Stallone as great actors…oh for the good old days when actors were actors

Or the line I always remeber from Callan – No wonder they call you lonely, get a bar of soap

A shame indeed.
The last film I remember him being in was Hot Fuzz, where he played the local Neighbourhood Watch CCTV operator.

Echoed sentiments.
A fine actor indeed, and ‘Callan’ being a very good series to remember him by.
Goodnight Mr Woodward.

Thats sad! I remember him from The Equalizer.

That is very sad, although not unexpected as he had been ill for some time. Despite his illustrious career with its enormous diversity of roles he will be indelibly etched into my mind as Callan. One of the best of the “spy” series ever made because it seemed to portray so well the mainly humdrum, rather sleazy, duplicitous world of the genre. Callan, played by Woodward and his “informer” Lonely, wonderfully played by Russell Hunter were great TV creations.
