The News In Brief:
West Country based photographer Adam Spalding recently hit the 1000 mark on globally renown aviation photography website Jetphotos.net.
Speaking through an interpreter, we managed to have a brief interview with Mr Spalding when he met with The Cheers Drive Gazette in a J.D. Wetherspoon lodge just outside Tiverton. “It’s not very easy for a kid from the West Country”, he says. “Not only are you born speaking funny, but you’re conscripted into the Taunton Cider apple picking gang at the age of 6. It’s hard work. All that tree climbing may sound great for a kid, but not when all you want to do is geek out on Flight Sim with a PMDG 747 while learning Lee Evans quotes.” Adam goes on to explain a little about his ethos when it comes to photography. “I always knew I was gifted and destined for big things. I always saw the bigger picture. When other kids saw a normal apple, I saw a toffee apple… I saw the BIG apple. I wanted everything bigger and better, and strived to make everything I did bigger and better. I always used to say my naturally oversized forehead was just there to store my talent, but no-one ever believed me”.
As we learned, hitting 1000 on Jetphotos is no easy task. It requires many hours of frustration and hard effort to achieve such a feat. “In my apple picking days with Taunton Cider, I used to serruptitiously take my Canon 350D up into the trees and practice my panning technique on passing squirrels. I shouldn’t have done that; I should have been picking apples but hey… A genius has to do what a genius has to do, and it shows now I’ve hit the magical 1k. Nothing can stop me now… The Spalding train is in motion”.
Adam is now looking forward to hitting the 2000 mark, and has moved on from Taunton Cider. “I’m now the quality control manager at Ginsters. Every evening we sent over 6000 trucks out to stock the country’s motorway service stations for those weary travellers in need of an authentic Cornish snack. I’m the guy who makes sure the sausage rolls don’t have too much salt and the balance between the ham and cheese is just right. Think of it like balancing the exposure of a photo; too much salt and you screw your face up in disgust. Blown highlights and softness have the same effect. It’s all tied in.”
We’d like to thank Adam for his time and his insightful thoughts. In next weeks ’Loser Turns Life Around’ column, we see how a rather large northerner has dedicated his life to the science of Burgerology and is making breakthrough discoveries in the field of getting fat quick.
All joking aside, Spalds (CC/TC/WAC) has hit the significant 1000 milestone on JP, and this is the fine image he’s hit it with.

Congratulations on hitting 1k, mate. It’s a fine image to get there with and I look forward to seeing the next 1000, and beyond. Really nice work Chops!
