A wonderful man and a credit to the sport, he will be sadly missed.

Farewell, but, not Goodbye!.
Another one of the few remaining bona fide legends in the game gone. I heard an interview, a few years back now, where he commented that he never wanted the day to come where he’d spend his saturday afternoons in a supermarket….looking at the prices of baked beans!.
He’s gone before his time but he’s also gone before he outlived the contribution he could make to the game he loved and the wider community. It’s saddening but in a way, from reading his autobiography, I think he’d have been quietly satisfied with that.
RIP Sir Bobby.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard so many people talk so beautifully about someone who’s passed away. It just goes to show what a great gentleman he was. For sure he’s a huge loss to football, and to the world. My thoughts are with you, Bobby.

He seemed like such a nice guy. Its a shame to hear he passed away as he came accross as a true gentleman.

I had the undoubted pleasure of meeting Sir Bobby at a dinner in Aberdeen about 3 years ago, where he was guest of Honour and after dinner speaker. Though there was 250 people plus in the room that evening, he had time for a word with anyone that approached him.
His speech was excellent, regailing the highs and lows of his career. Informative and extremely funny in places, but tempered by a sense of sadness in others. What really came across was his total love and enthusiasm for the game, and his belief for values that sometimes seem to be missing in it today. As Pete Truman said, “a good old sincere bloke” and a man who possessed a character that we could possibly do with having more of in sport today.

I watched the Sir Bobby Robson Trophy match at Newcastle on TV the other day, Old England V Old Germany and the glimpses of poor old Robson during the match made me worried for his future, he really did look a poor old boy, almost unrecognisable in fact.
A lovely bloke, possibly too nice a chap to really deal with the nastiness of top level football and treated badly by the system.
You were a good old, sincere bloke Bobby, have fun upstairs with Stan Matthews and the other immortals.

Agreed. Sad, sad news. Being a Town fan myself I’ll be raising a glass to him and reflecting on good old days.
