Words defy me.
Flahdur USA. 8 foot Burmese Python escapes from its “Cage” and kills 2 year old boy.
The press say “Strangled” but in fact the constrictors crush with such a force that the heart is not able to beat. Poor liitle mite, bless his soul.
Stupid parents. Discuss.

That’s a very sad and horrific story…you know my opinion of snakes …this dry Continent is infested with the bloody things…where’s St Patrick when you need him

Ha! Sammy the Snake is still there. If he did get out it could be quite interesting when he and the cat meet! 😀

Last week, next door’s cat came face to face with an Adder in the garden. Cat had never seen a snake, but it knew how to run away!

I’d be fairly confident my 4 foot snake wouldn’t escape and kill a toddler. If it were an 8 foot python I’d think slightly differently.

I would.
But “Shouldn’t” is left to human error.

There shouldn’t be a problem keeping animals and children as long as people are sensible about it. There really shouldn’t. It doesn’t even really matter whether the snake is in another room or not, if a child is hurt or worse by a pet then the owners/parects are very clearly irresponsible as they allowed that situation to happen. Wouldn’t you say?
Paul
I would.
But “Shouldn’t” is left to human error. Only 1 mistake allowed in these circs. and it’s a mistake that will haunt one to the point of suicide.

I wouldn’t keep an animal with a baby, personally. Even some “Domesticated” dogs get jealous. That could be an owner / training problem, but instinct never leaves.

So, if you had a toddler in the house….would you still keep the Snake?
Yes because it’s in my room out of the way (where my cat spends most of her time as well. Cat… Snake… Interesting combination!)

Not the direction I wanted the topic to go, but the “Telly” had a Boa grab a Duck (Or was it a Cormorant??). Duck covered in sensors to measure what happened. Crushing force equivelent to a man with a Yankee school bus on his chest. IIRC it was 1500lbs pSq inch. Heart stopped before lungs. Not good.
The duck probably had a heart attack! It’s widely accepted that constrictors kill by suffocation although having said that, it is actually a subject of debate whether the prey dies purey through suffocation or whether cardiac arrest as a result of increased blood pressure due to the squeezing also plays a part. Either way, I have a Californian King snake that’s around 4 feet long and when he wraps himself around your arm you can certainly appreciate just how strong bigger snakes are!
Anyway, back on topic…

No they don’t. Constrictors squeeze their prey so that every time it breathes out, it cant breathe back in so it asphyxiates. 😉
I echo your words. Poor kid, idiot parents. 😡
