Battle of Britain Donation & MP's Expenses

Ha!

The MP’s extenses row now has a historic aviation connection with the revelation that Labour MP Frank Cook tried to claim back a £5.00 donation he made at a Battle of Britain church service. Of course, he now forgets how he made the claim and admits trying to claim it was an “oversight” and he should not have done so. Hmmm.

Still, I suppose if a good number of MP’s are able to “forget” that they have paid off their mortgages (easily done, of course!) then a trifling £5.00 is an understandable oversight.

Maybe Mr Cook will now make a generous donation to RAFA or, perhaps, Help For Heroes, Flying Scholarships For The Disabled or any other aviation related charity as some kind of restitution and apology. Mind you….I’m not holding my breath.

However, we shouldn’t tar them all with the same brush. Its a shame how 99% of MP’s are giving all the rest such a bad name.;)

I couldn’t agree more if I tried! 😀 😀 😀 LMAO 😀

Now THAT post made me smile today but that’s a different thread 😀 😀 😀

Just shows how cynical and insincere these lot are, that they even regard giving to charity as just another part of the job they need to be seen doing, and thus claimable on expenses.

Even worse was the one who claimed £60 for the three wreaths of poppies he laid at Remembrance Day services – as if someone on an MP’s salary couldn’t afford that amount .

It would also be one of the biggest kicks up the backside that the “political elite” in this country has ever had.

And it would trigger a constitutional crisis that might well lead eventually to the end of the British monarchy, just as a similar crisis came close to turning Australia into a republic.

The Queen isn’t stupid.

I know the Monarch does not get involved in politics but I feel in this instance Her Majesty could best serve her subjects by disolving this parliment that is totally lacking moral authority and ordering an election so that the people can sweep away as many of these parasites, of whatever party, as possible. Legally she does have the power to do so. I was at a model exhibition last weekend and heard this point of view being expressed more than once. It would also be one of the biggest kicks up the backside that the “political elite” in this country has ever had.

I have a deep and personal loathing for the Archbishop of Canterbury after his on-air treatment of my (terminally ill) Ex in her Radio 4 plea for assisted suicide to be legalised.

He didn’t listen

He spouted pre-prepared dogma, he didn’t debate

He didn’t even show her the courtesy of remembering her name.

He is a pointless waste of oxygen.

I did at least mangage to say as much from one of his pulpits when giving her eulogy. The vicar wasn’t best pleased.

The Archbishop’s remarks smack of a little hypocrisy. The organised churches are not always exactly the models of probity and all that is good. They are also HUGE money making businesses.

What annoyed me more than anything was the Archbishop of Canterbury’s preaching last week that it was time to end the ” humiliation ” of MPs – after all, they brought it on themselves. If the head of the church can’t see that this is a MORAL issue and most people are furious because they wouldn’t dream of making unfair claims themselves,we really are in a bad way .

I have a horrible feeling though that not a great deal will change. The story is massive in terms of abuse of trust and responsibility but the attention span of Joe Public won’t allow it to be covered fully. The stories last week were bumped from the red tops by Jade Goodie’s mother seeing her face in a cloud, and a non entity “pop” star splitting from his slightly larger entity wife. While there will be some scalps (with payoffs) any large scale change will need to be approved by the very body that it is intended to police.

I think there will be one or two large scale sacrifices made by each party, then we will have a “select committee” costing millions to investigate the a potential new process. I can’t see anybody with a sweeping system that would propose for example, flat salary based on years as an M.P. Accomodation in a government owned building (Olympic Village was a grand idea) and flat travel rates.

Any police investigation would be huge, fraud cases always are, how many MP’s over how many years……? Just can’t see it happening.

It makes me so ******* angry when I see them all with their noses in the trough……

What planet are you on Andy?

(I’ll have some of what he’s having)

Ah, that will be the planet that isn’t the real world. The same one MP’s inhabit!:D
