During the display….a released red kite flew and joined in….
Cheyenne (the bald eagle) did an amazing rapid descent too….

I believe Duffy is still round…Madeleine is around but does not do shows anymore…a young boy called Davy Jones does!

Havent been to the Hawk Conservancy for a couple of years now…I always loved seeing the owls flying (esp Duffy the european eagle owl…I think about 6 foot wingspan)
They always flew a barn owl low over the audience…here a couple of pics scanned in from a few years ago

Talking about birds, anyone else ever see a greylag goose flying upsidedown with its head the right way up.
apparently it happens a lot.

Yes and the other thing I’ve seen which amazed me was a few years ago. One evening I stood and watched a fox and a rabbit pass within about 10 feet of each other and go on their merry way. When I mentioned it to my dad he told that the fox was probably on his own territory, strange as it may seem they don’t hunt on their own patch.

Best airshow I’d seen for a long time.
I can vouch for that> Birds of prey have forgotten far more about gliding than we’ll ever learn. When we were on holiday last week our coach broke down and we had one of natures fine airshows whilst we waited for our alternative transport to arrive. A pair of Red Kites and a pair of Buzzards hunting the same area without bothering each other. It was an education to many of us, being able to see the difference in the way the two species hunt.

what a small world, I’m up the A-303 in the town of 1000 roundabouts and the Mrs has taken the kids to the hawk conservancy more times than I can count !
I bet I tripped over you at Popham !

My wife is a somewhat serious birder (she can tell the difference between all types of birds, but still mixes up B-17s and C-47s!) so we’ve gone to a couple of events featuring raptors.
One was a lecture on the various types of owls in the region. A rehabilitation center had some that can’t be released back to the wild because of injuries. Facinating stuff.
Then last fall we took a boat trip to look at bald eagles having a good feast on salmon on their way sout for the winter.
Also last fall I was out in the roadster for the final drive of the year and I happened to look up and saw a bald eagle soaring not far from our home. I pulled over and watched it for 5-10 minutes until it left (probably disappointed I wasn’t a mouse or rabbit.)
Best airshow I’d seen for a long time.

( I’m paranoid about being told I’m chatting,since it seems only females do this ).The point is, I don’t want any technical knowledge and conversations that fascinate blokes like whether the dingle-dangle’s bigger on the MkIII or the MkIV bore me to tears.I like being around old flying boats,and that’s it,so if the conversation turns technical I’m a spare part.Plus it makes me feel a bit of a fraud as well,if you see what I mean. (sorry rocketeer.I’ve always wanted to see the hawk conservancy place but Mr. Bee’s not bothered.)

I am sure that they would welcome you with open arms, if only because they would be able to demonstrate their greater knowledge. I jest really. I would seriously consider it if I were you as it may well be a chance to further your knowledge. If that forum is anything like this one it’ll be a case of just asking the question and someone will be kind enough to answer it for you or point you in the direction of someone who can. Failing that they may well point you in the direction of a publication which will have the answer.
