1911 Census.

For those of us involved in ancestry research and believe me, you all will be one day, the 1911 census will be released for public scrutiny next year. Anybody know when? This is an unique census in that it was the first one that individuals completed in their own handwriting, so you can see how your family wrote in those days. The drawback is of course that illiteracy was still common, so you may have trouble reading them.

So the 1911 is being released after 98 years, so why is the 1921 census not going to being released until 2021, 100 years later?

you all will be one day,:

True enough – already am – but hampered by the fact that a hefty chunk of the family are French Canadians (with children numbering by the dozen)and another fair sized batch are from Jersey – where , apparently, Census taking was just alittle lax.

The name in question is about the Jersey equivalent of Smith or Jones but in 1901 only 12 people of that name actually filled in the census return and 5 of them were visitors from France…so must visit the place sometime soon.

Wasn’t ever meant to be easY!

I had the beta test of the 1911 search site so the compilers could get feedback, only problem was that there weren’t any Northern counties available and all my lot are fairly local to Yorkshire

The site gave the answer to your query; There was a statement on the 1921 Census forms that the info would be secure for 100 years, so this will be honoured.

I thought the rule was 100 years, the 98 being a concession. Dunno why.

My lot are from Germany, my uncle has traced us back to 13plonk. Knights in armour etc. At that level, Church records are used, not census.
In 17plonk, two of our family were hung for grand theft horse, or whatever it was called back then. We’ve got Boar war heroes WW1 deaths (well who hasn’t!). All fascinating stuff.
