I’m not sure how a 4 to 5% drop in stock markets across the world sound any better.

We seem to be reaching the conditions for a major financial meltdown.

With the luck that some of the posters here had, you’ve probably got his fungal infection too 😮

I cried because I had no shoes

Until I met a man with no feet.

I am the sole carer for my wife who is disabled by multiple sclerosis, I had to take early retirement to care for her but I still count myself lucky as I had a decent job with a decent pension and when she goes in for treatment or respite care I can get away and do some spotting. I worked with a nice guy in the 80s who had such a string of bad luck that he became depressed, needed medication and died after a reaction to the cocktail of drugs he was taking. I am sure most of us in middle age have a few personal tragedies, loss of close friends or family, redundancy, divorce, financial problems etc etc. As Eric Idle sang; “Life’s a piece of s*** when you think of it” So follow his advice and “Always look on the bright side of life”

Have a great day

Brian 😀

BTW this is the full version of that quotation, if anyone’s interested;

“I never complained of the vicissitudes of fortune, nor murmured at the ordinances of Heaven, excepting once, when my feet were bare, and I had not the means of procuring myself shoes. I entered the great mosque at Cufah with a heavy heart when I beheld a man who had no feet. I offered up praise and thanksgiving to God for his bounty, and bore with patience the want of shoes, A broiled fowl in the eyes of one who has satisfied his appetite, is of less estimation than a leaf of greens on a dish; but to him who hath not the means of procuring food, a boiled turnip is equal to a broiled fowl.”
~Sa’adi (Persian poet, a.k.a Muslih-al-Din/Muslin-ed-Deen) (1184-1291), in Gulistan (Rose Garden)
(translated into English by Francis Gladwin)

Unfortunately old shape and chuck1981 it’s true. So much so that this week I decided I don’t want to speak my friend again, becuase the whole thing eas started by that friend. 14 years friendship down the drain, but on the plus side it’s made me come out of my shell and not feel so down. It’s done some good but also some bad.

To make this week crappier, i’ve cut my hand when changing a lightbulb …, fell of a chair, fell of my piano stool, jammed my toe under my piano, walked into a lampost and to top it all lost a friend but it was my choice so the latter one I can’t have a grudge about.

You’re 17 and a pal for 13 years. That is a long time to keep a pal, especially when you are growing up your opinions and tastes change so much. Lucky to find a person who’s tastes etc. change with your own. As you get older, the tastes/opinions/policy of of heads seems to change about every 7-10 years, but at your age it could be yearly.

Your 2nd paragraph cheered me up, it was like a comedy script! Hope your not too injured, physically or otherwise.

Being a 17 year old boy crying at school becuase he’s sick of being picked on. Yes. It has.

Hey, you are 17 years old, almost a man. Man up. When they pick on you, just smile, dont say a word.

In 5,10, or 20 years youll be the one laughing at these silly fools, dont let them get you down. 🙂

what annoyed me about today was the fact i was lying on the path with my leg bleeding..my bike half in the railing..and people just walking past me and stepping over me…and a nissan worker on a bike who asked me to move so he could get through

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I am glad the states aren’t the only location where you can find “blankety blank blanks ” like this.

This is one thing that really irritates me about people. How could someone in good conscience just walk by someone like this without the slightest thought or care?

You should have kicked that nissan worked in one of his knees with your good leg.

oh it is paul..the only comfort i have is that a good looking nurse dressed the wound haha

A good looking nurse eh? The last time I fell off my bike (a while ago) my helmet stopped my head getting a little messed up. Had I known good looking nurses were possibly involved I might not have worn it! 😀

Hmm… You know what? I think this thread needs a bit of perspective.

We all go through crap times in our lives. Every single one of us does; it’s just a part of that big thing called life, but next time you feel it’s crap, ask yourself these questions:

Am I still alive and relatively healthy?

Has anyone very close to me died in the not too distant past?

Do I always have someone close to me I trust and can turn to for a shoulder to cry on when I feel down?

If the answer to those three questions is yes, which it will be in most cases, then it can’t be so bad. Thinking about the things I’ve been through in my short life and looking back on this thread, I can’t believe people get so wound up over a parking ticket. I hate to sound morbid, but you might die tomorrow. It’s perfectly possible, and that’s why there is no point whatsoever in letting stupid little things in life get you down. I know saying that doesn’t help when you have little depressive stages, and I’ve recently been through one such stage (as Mr Spalding will testify), but at the end of the day, however bad you feel, when you conisder what you have compared to what so many people can only dream about, it isn’t so bad.

Cheer up guys, and don’t park your cars in silly places. 🙂

Paul

P.S. The bike accident does sound a little painful though, Scott!

well my day started off fine, got up, got ready to go to work, set off on my push bike with the plan of stopping in at NEAM on the way.

On the bridge going over the A19, on the down slope my brakes decided not to respond, so quickly picking up speed i lost all control of slowing down..ending up with my bike going half through a metal railing..and me landing on top of it…damaged left leg and ankle, right hand and right foot are now in agony…ended up in hospital from half 2 until half 7, mainly siting around doing nothing but waiting

i thought the NHS was meant to be quick, i thought Sunderland Royal was one of the quickest hospitals for getting in, seen to and out

not one of my better days thats for sure

Beat this one………….

O/K…………..

Here’s where my family are right now…………..

I have a lovely wife and two fantastic kids, we bought an apartment on the second floor of a block and lived here for the past seven years;:)

This is a copy of an email I sent to my parents last night saying that we will have to sell our apartment and move…………. (I left out the names)

Tonight, for the hundreth time we have been walking around trying to find a window or door that we can get fresh air inside without cigarette smoke comeing into our apartment, WITH NO LUCK!

My wife came home from work tonight (sunday) and went into my 6 year old son’s room (he was asleep), she came out and said that his room smelt like cigarette smoke, we both went in and looked out the window; the window one across and below was open and cigarette smoke was poreing out of it. We closed the window and left his door open.

I went to the balcony door (on the other side of the building) and openned it, but closed it straight away because of the cigarette smoke comeing in from the balcony directly under ours. (Three guys live there, they all smoke, sometimes all together and sometimes not).

We went into our bedroom and smelt smoke there so closed the window (it’s next to the balcony), so we had all the windows and the balcony door closed………. with our apartment smelling of cigarette smoke.

I waited for a while and checked the kitchen window………. no smoke so I left it open. 🙁

The two people next door (with a two – three year old boy) have there kitchen on the other side of the wall to ours, we smelt a strong smell of smoke comeing into our kitchen through the ventilation duct in the kitchen the day after they moved in.
I went next door and asked if they smoked in their apartment; they replied that they both smoke inside “but only in the kitchen, we work hard and need to relax when we get home” and on their balcony (three meters from our bedroom window).
(I told them that smokeing with a little boy there is really bad for him, but it’s like talking to a brick wall) and about them getting sick or dying and leaving him without one or both parents, “yes, but you can get hit by a car anytime” was their reply!

I covered over the ventilation openning in the kitchen with paper and tape but the smell still comes in some how.

So here we are, with smokers in every apartment around us, being woken up quite regularly between 12pm and 4 a.m. by the smell of smoke in our bedroom, closeing our bedroom window and/or balcony door, openning the kitchen window or the kids bedrooms to get air from the other side of the building, or closeing the kids bedroom windows and trying to get the smoke out and some fresh air in:mad:

So how’s your day been!

cheers,

-John (We are being forced out of our home and really ARE looking for another place to live)

Worse than yours Future P.

On my way to Exeter my water pump went in my car causing the cam belt to slip bending the rods & valves etc, just picked it up today and handed over £1700 for the trouble.

You think you have it bad? swap? 😉

I’d rather not but to add to the argument one of the valves on my tyres snaped off and the air rushed out in 10 seconds and it was flat. Long story short I can’t get an ordinary valve because they are ‘sensory valves’ which means the car lets me know when the pressure drops too low, basically Peugeot want to charge me £140 for an ‘Under-Inflation Transmitter Module’ and to fit it :(.

Ohh well, I have to drive around with a crappy spare on in the meantime….

As for the parking? well yes I admit I did go beyond the 2 hour free time limit but at the end of the day I work in a Waitrose store that doesn’t provide free parking for it’s employees (except the management team ) and as a result I tend to move it between the free bay areas every 3 hours or so….

Forgive me for wanting to rather do that than pay £5 a day for parking, so yes I think I can get pissed off for getting a ticket!

Sorry guys, I can’t resist………..

Right……….

In my day we would be lucky to have the price for a cup of tea……….
a cup of cold tea……….
without milk………
or sugar……….
or tea………

We used to live in a house with great big holes in the floor, huddled together for fear of falling…………

a house, luxury?!
we used to live in a hole in the ground covered by a tarp……….

a hole in the ground?!
We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank………

A septic tank?!………… you were lucky!…………

My parents always wondered why I couldn’t remember much when I came home from school, my memory banks were already full of Monty Python!

cheers,

-John
