Right, you lot sometimes have something sensible to say :D, so can anyone help me here.
I’m happy at my job and have not been looking round for alternative employment. Last week though I received a phone call on my work line from a recruitment firm – not one I’ve had any previous involvement with.
He said there is one position he is trying to fill to which I pretty much fit their criteria. I was not asked for by the company hiring by name, but this recruitment guy claimed his firm had a huge network of scouts out and about and knew of pretty much everyone in my position in the industry in Birmingham.
He enquired as to what package I was on, and what would entice me to leave. I gave him a figure substantially higher than my current salary, and he said that should not be a problem.
Now, is this just an aggresive way of finding out who is in the market and at what price, to try and boost up his database of potential candidates or is he serious in having a job for me. When asked who the firm was he refused to say, and so far I have not been able to get a job description out of him. I am somewhat dubious myself.
I am due to meet the recruitment guy next week. Some of you out there must be in recruitment. Advise please, as I get the feeling I’m being taken for a ride.
