OOPs.
My top grammar school education was obviously a waste of time, although it was a long time ago.

Eastenders! Is that true? 😡

The BBC shouldn’t be about chasing ratings it should be about providing a public service.

16 / 20.

But, it’s from the BBC, which used to be always text book English but is now aiming its TV at the bottom of the bell curve chavs and pikeys in order to keep viewing figures.
If you consider Eastenders as your MAIN budget expense, you’ve lost the quality plot.

I’m beginning to think we’re not exactly getting a truly representative set of results here.

What is it they say; there are lies, damned lies, and statistics!

I’m not saying that those who scored 20/20 didn’t get that result but I’m thinking those with lower scores weren’t so keen to post.

Many thanks to those brave enough to post non-perfect scores. 🙂

18 out of 20. English is not my mother language, so I suppose, it´s not that bad at all.

Hopefully there will be a dedicated “Grammar” test too…

One of the things that REALLY annoys me is incorrect use of apostrophes.
eg. “This shop open’s on Sunday’s.”

It concerns me that poor standards of English have spread through the teaching profession itself; only last week I was assisting my cousin with his GCSE project. His teacher had identified a couple of spelling mistakes – one of them (the word “necessary”) was in fact correctly spelt by my cousin!:rolleyes:
The same teacher had made a few notes: “A-. This would have been an A+ had it not been for your 2 spelling mistake’s.”

Worrying… :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The test was pretty basic though….

Arr, but you stil don’t talk proper like wot I does.:) Some of the teeangers these days have such an attitude problem they need retraining before they’re allowed to re-enter the human race.

If the people we employ is a good indication of standards then I would say standards are getting lower all the time. We take on quite a few people in their late teens i.e. not that long out of school (there are two schools and one college in the district) and nearly all of them have difficulty with spelling and correct use of words. Coupled with “attitude”, it’s almost as if they need retraining to enter the world of work. We had an 18 year old temp a month ago who informed us that she “didn’t do phones” when asked to answer incoming calls. I don’t blame the children so much as the schools.
