Genesis (Rock Group) – Not Really That Good

When I was a kid, the ‘in’ kids in class were into Genesis. I didn’t really like their stuff that much and wasn’t in the ‘in’ crowd.

I saw a film on telly the other night about the reformed Genesis preparing to play live. The programme was interesting, and I found myself wanting to see some tracks played live to see if I would enjoy them more than I used to when I was a kid.

Sadly I was disappointed. The synthesisers sounded just as primitive as they were in the 70s/80s, and I just plain didn’t like most of the songs. The only one I really liked was ‘Tonight Tonight Tonight’ – a real cracker which I played loud after getting the freebie CD with the Daily Mail.

Oddly enough, I really like Phil Collins early solo albums.

Taste, a funny old thing, eh?

Heh heh, good to hear from y’all! It seems you’re either on one side of the fence or the other about this – and sure, I deserve stick for disliking Genesis yet liking the early Collins stuff.

Jesterhud, I might just d/load those early albums to prove myself wrong.

‘A trick of the Tail’ was the best of the lot… 😎 Just YouTube it;)

Yech!! Garbage, utter mince band… Yes wannabes, Phil Collins got his drumming expertise from a lucky bag:diablo:Bloody embarrassing/cringeworthy watching him on stage playing a kit with no mikes and a top session drummer fully miked up “twinning” with him.
Don’t get me started on the wail he calls singing:mad::mad:
Would rather watch boyzone or take that before watching Genesis live:D

I saw Genesis at Twickenham in London last year, it was an awesome gig, to me Genesis is not all about the ditty little ballad/pop crap that they evolved into doing, listen to the earlier stuff when Peter Gabriel was the singer.

Try these two albums, Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound, its awesome stuff, the song Suppers Ready its an absolute classic piece of prog rock.

A bit more heady is the double album ‘The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway’, quite complicated but well worth a listen.
I will never forget how Mike Rutherfords bass pedals were making Twickenham Stadium literally shake last year.

The early Genesis just cannot be compared to the latter day version of the band, they didnt play much from the early days sadly on the last tour, but there are persistant rumours that Gabriel will rejoin the band for a one off reunion tour sometime..

Hi SFF…was never a genesis fan myself but always really enjoyed listening to their ex guitarist Steve Hackett especially his acoustic/semi acoustic stuff,I did post his version of ‘cinema paradiso’ on the youtube video thread a week or so ago. When he plays classical stuff live you really do wonder where the other guitarist is.:D

Well there are two types of people, those who like Phil Collins solo work and those who would rather listen humming of overcharged airventilation system if that the were the sole other option…

…You can guess to which gathegory I belong.:dev2::dev2:
