Sydney the Pilot
Yes he was pilot, owned a Citation X and flew it as much as he could. Very interested in aviation, even said he would like to have flown professionally. I have a bit about him and some links about him and his aviation interests on my blog. http://blog.what2fly.com

I enjoyed many of his films, IMHO, Tootsie is the best comedy of the 1980s (and perhaps one of the best of all time).
He was also a pilot…I haver no idea what he may have flown or owned.
But it reminds me…and as stated, he directed Out of Africa. In it, I understand the original plan was to destroy the Moth used by the Robert Redford character.
Somewhere along the line, that was changed. Instead, the plane crashes offscreen.
Did Mr. Pollack save the plane out of his interest in aviation or was it just a happy turn of events?
Just wondering…why would anyone sell an antique to a film company knowing they might destroy it (after all it was based on a book so the seller could have known what would happen in the script).
