The airport is the main base for TNT Express. Most of the movements, not counting small Cessna props and similar bugsmashers, are by TNT or for TNT. But most of the movements are at night. During the three hours I was here there where only six airliner movements: three 747s landed, one 737 landed and took off, and one CL-600 took off.
The following photos where taken from a large mound to the northeast of the airport behind the airport hotel. It overlooks the runway and part of the apron. The view is not dissimilar to the mounds at Manchester, except you got Belgian country side as the backdrop instead of the airport fascilities.
This photo was taken from a parking area for trucks at the southeast of the airport. Be carefull when driving in here with normal cars, the potholes in here can be quite deep! This is the only bit of the main cargo apron that can be photographed without dragging along a big (5+ step) ladder. The rest of the apron has a double chainlink fence that is taller then normal. You can easily read most of the registrations though.
The last photo was taken today at Volkel airbase. Tomorrow six F-16s will leave the Netherlands for delivery to Chile. This plane will deliver equipment and spare parts.
