I won a holiday to switzerland a little while ago, so I’m off to there. 7 nights, 4 star hotel, flights, all free…. I guess someone has to do it.

Such a hard life isn’t it?:D

Hmm…. looks like I might have to opt out of the heavy horse ride in April, as some silly ******s have decided they now want to do a full-day’s ride – which I cannot afford!

Arses.

Flying LCY-ZUR-BKK next week with Swiss. First chance for my 8 month old little chap to meet the Thai side of his family. Going to be murder if he doesn’t sleep on the plane though, so spare a thought for us as you turn in on Wednesday night? Cheers.

Well I am off to New York for three weeks in February, however, this is for training for my new job…but I am sure I will get some spare time to explore the city for the first time!

And in July, I am off to Hawaii!:D

I am flying LHR to LAX with Virgin Atlantic, and then onwards to HNL with Hawaiian Airlines, then doing a 7 day cruise around the Hawaiian islands, and then spending a further 6 days in Waikki Beach area, during which I am going to take one/two of these days to fly on some of the local airlines including Aloha, Go! and Island Air!

We’ve nothing booked yet, but we’re making plans. Very likely to be Oostende for our main holiday in September, with Christmas in Brugge (very nice place to spend Christmas:D )

There is so much of Belgium I still want to see – like Tongeren on a nice day when there is no fairground like we were plagued by in September (impossible to take any nice photos when the nice views are obscured by a fairground), more of the coast (De Panne, Nieuwpoort and Koksijde) which we planned to see last year until we arrived to see the main street in Nieuwpoort dug up and the strong winds in De Panne blowing sand into our eyes. All these places looked nice and I want to see more of them. I would like to see more of the Ardennes (certainly places accessible by train) and visit Ieper again. Eupen is another favourite place of mine.

I’ve found a beautiful cottage in the UK, literally set in sand dunes, on the beach, but I’m not telling you where till I’ve booked it, as my missus wants to go to Greece this year, she hates the hot sun so I can’t work it out, ****** all that airport crap, we can even take the dogs to this place, she’s mental if she doesn’t go for it, long discussions will be on the agenda today.

You mean vacation, right ? The holidays are just over :p

Vacation is a term used in English-speaking North America to describe a lengthy time away from work or school, a trip abroad, or simply a pleasure trip away from home, such as a trip to the beach that lasts several days or longer. In the rest of the English-speaking world the word holiday is used, whereas in North America, “holiday” normally applies to a specific national holiday or long weekend related to such a day. In some cases “vacation holiday” is used in North America, which signifies that a vacation trip is taken during a traditional national holiday period, extended on either end of the period by taking additional time off from work—creating a longer time unencumbered by work, an extended “long weekend”, as it were. This practice is common in the United States where employers give far fewer annual vacation days (see below) than European employers—so stretching the related national holidays tends to conserve one’s accumulated total of eligible days available for longer quality vacation excursions.

In England the word “vacation” referred specifically to the long summer break taken by the law courts (and later universities)—a custom introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy where it was intended to facilitate the grape harvest. The French term is similar to the American English: “Les Vacances.” The term derives from the fact that, in the past, upper-class families would literally move to a summer home for part of the year, leaving their usual family home vacant. Most countries around the world have labor laws mandating a certain number of days of time off per year to be given to a worker. In Canada the legal minimum is two weeks, while in most of Europe the limit is significantly higher. Neither the U.S. nor China requires that employees receive any vacation time at all. There are movements fighting for laws requiring more vacation time for American workers such as timeday.org.
In modern employment practice, vacation days are often coupled with Sick leave, official
holidays, and sometimes personal days.

No, Frank.

Holi-whats???

My combined self- and partial-employment doesn’t really lend itself to holiwhatsits… but, I’m still working on a quick 4-5 day jaunt over to that side of the pond (west-country) in July just for RIAT. Then perhaps a week-long road trip to Virgina in September for the NAS Oceana airshow.

My total escape to the ‘Nam will have to wait yet another year.

Definitely once, probably twice down to the Lake District this year with some mates to go riding the Clydesdale horses at the Cumbrian Heavy Horse Centre – again!

Galloping along the beach….! 😀
