Well Freddie, it is 16 years since you were taken so tragically away from us.
You were a gentlemen, a jester, great fun and the purveyor of many great great driving songs. The world will always be a sadder place without you, though I smile when I remember some songs…..
Today at our 90th anniversary of flying, I raised my glass to you).
(Well it was, when I started writing this).

Whilst PR is a great singer too, my Dad downloaded some Queen from ITunes for my Mum’s IPOD, she was horrified and shouted…’Thats not Freddie!!!’

Driving home last night and this came on the radio. The unique Freddie Mercury.

Wow Steve, you’ve heard of him then, in which case I thought you might consider Tony Bennett as a good replacement, or better still, Andy Williams, he has a good vocal range and a lisp, though I think it has more to do with his false teeth nowadays.
.
I’ve always enjoyed the unique sound of Queen…..Michael Buble’ does a fabulous rendition of “Crazy little thing called love”

You can’t replace a unique personality or voice like Freddy Mercury..imagine someone trying to replace John Lennon or George Harrison..it’s just a nonsense

I was watching ‘The Sky at Night’ on friday, it featured Dr Brian May watching meteors, it was really cool to see him sitting in a deck chair next to the almighty Sir Patrick Moore, which made me think, eccentric, can play the piano, good bet to lead a revamped Queen, what do you think.
I watched my fave TV programme last night, woo hoo, ‘The X Factor’
The choice of songs for these sad no-hopers were ‘Great British Classics’.
Well for those who were too ill at the thought of watching, the majority of songs performed were Queen classics, no doubt inspired by them having to wear red ribbons and the producers taking advantage of this.
It was the best laugh we’ve had for ages, inspired by such comments from the judges as, ‘Freddy would be looking down and be proud of your performance’.
No effing way, it was an insult to the blokes memory, he should have unleashed a thunderbolt and knocked this c### into the oblivion it deserves, no no we can’t do that, we have to see what the great British Public think, after all, despite the fact that everyone seems tone deaf, as muscisians ourselves, we must be wrong in deciding whats out of tune or not, thats our theory.

As the instigator of this thread I am interested in the way this has been received. A deliberate troll is sad (I thought they were extinct!?) and has no place in our forums…
I find Innuendo an incredibly moving album….’These are the days of our lives’, ‘The show must go on’, and the haunting ‘Bijou’ all make me sad but reflective. I fully realise that Queen had more than one genius in it (all you have to do is see the writers of some of the songs). It was also used as the soundtrack to the superb Phantom Phinale video shot by Nav/WEO ‘Bad Manners’….superb music, superb flying, superb editing what more could we want?
Since`Freddie we have seen the boys continuing to make him proud….watching Brian May on the roof of Buck palace was out of this world.

I shall leave you with Freddie……

well but that would be just idea of duplicating Freddy, isent it? And to me the point of this new queen line up is to do the exact opposite, and I think thats more better approach. By duplicating Freddy, one just denyes the fact that he isent dead, but he is, and nothing can change that. So its time to move on and there is will in Brian and Roger to continue, the best way they can do it is to look onward and do something new that aknowlidges that Freddy isent around anymore.
Its the same thing that the Who did after Keith Moon died, changed the show with drummer and persona wich had nothing to do with Moonie. And it has worked.

Mod comments accepted.
I just looked up Freddie on Wikipedia and it’s actually very interesting and informative for once, worth looking at.
Are the remnants of Queen really bringing out an album with Paul Rogers, if so forget it, I thought the best stand in was, believe it or not, Robbie Williams, gasp, shock horror, but he at least had the theatricals, charisma, and a closer vocal range than Rogers, I’m not a fan of his, and I don’t like to admit it, but I thought he worked it better than any one else during the Freddie tribute concert, but he’ll never be Freddy, or though it might be worth a proper try, if the public are desperate for this sort of attempted reincarnation, he’d look the part with the right moustache.

My best mates, late wife’s brother was a Queen fan from the year dot.
Following our amazing party at Paul Gambaccinies house in Oxford, we went over to Ruislip for another party at Carols house, her brother played this wierd band Queen’s records all night, it really peed us off, he was convinced they would be famous, we weren’t so sure about this.
I remember my ex missus phoning me up to tell me that Bohemian Rhapsody was No 1 in the charts, we couldn’t believe it.
So followed a real love/hate relationship with the band.
Quite frankly I never bought a thing of theirs until my son got a bit keen in the late 90’s.
However, watching their performance at Live Aid was pretty awe inspiring, but not convincing.
What really did me, that album brought out after Freddies death, it really is a hell of a way to go and how the hell he did it is beyond me, I love it.
I do think that, like the stuff or not, the bloke was pretty amazing, and sadly missed, what would he be doing now I wonder.

Now as for Queen, I am a huge fan, always have always will be. John has decided to have a rest, and well justified, Brian & Roger however, continue to keep Queens Music alive and kicking. A good friend of mine is the Drummer for the musical We Will Rock You, Ive heard & seen him play, and I doubt anyone could tell if it was Tony or Roger on the Drums. QUEEN FOREVER

what he got up to in his personal life, once he didnt adversly effect others, is immaterial. What his sexual or other preferences were is immaterial..
He was a genius and is still sadly missed…we need more real characters in this life not the sort of Media hyped non entities we have these days !:(
RIP Freddie

Thought that would raise a few hackles:cool: .
I was playing Devil’s Advocate;)
IMHO Freddy was the ultimate rock music entertainer,as I have posted many times on other threads.
On threads like this, only the good things are remembered, just like looking through rose coloured glasses.Freddy’s attitude to unprotected sex is unforgivable. The AIDS question was well known before his death. He took the fame and fortune that the fans gave him and misused it.He died way too soon, denying his fans of whatever was to come.
I thank Freddy for what he gave us but still can’t forgive him for f/mucking it up.
Well said. Freddy certainly had an attitude that caught him up pretty quick !
By: barrythemod - 27th November 2007 at 09:23
Why on Earth did you feel the need to say that? What possible relevence could that have in this thread?
