Accomodation for MAKS 2007

Hi guys,

I’m still not 100% sure, but it is a good chance that I might go to Russia next month, to MAKS 2007. I absolutely love russian planes and this is the best place to see them together with a lot of other stuff, of course.

I’ve never been there before, and I live in Australia.

The airfair is not that much, tickets are less than $2000.

I need someone’s help and advice, as in what’s the best way to get a good accomodation at a good price.

Depends on how it works out and what cost is involved, that will decide if I go or not.

I’m trying to get the company I work for to pay or partially pay for it, if that is the case I’ll pay whatever it is:)

But if I have to pay for everything, it is a different story, I did a quick search on the net and for a 4 or 5 star hotel I’m looking @ $400AU+ for a single room per night!!!!

I didn’t realise that Moscow/Russia is so expensive?!

I was planning to stay there anywhere between 5 and 14 days, depends on how things work out.

I’m open for suggestions and advice from people who know what’s happenning there.

Thanks in advance to those who respond.

Best regards,

LM

Hi my apologies guys, I’ve been away from these forums and just about everything else for that matter, for the past weeks.

Anyhow, although pre-ocupied with other stuff I still want to go to MAKS and, well yes I’m working flat out on last minute preparations, tickets and visa is in progress and all comes with a premium price, so the cost of accomodation at this stage becomes irelevant:)

I wont be there for the whole event (21-26/08/2007) but I should be there on 24/25/26 so see what happens.
I’ll leave Moscow the next day on 27th.
If anyone is interested to catch up there or go for a drink or whatever, or offer advise help or anything drop me a line

Well see what happens:)

P.S. thanks for the advice above, I’ll take it into consideration:)

And try and get round the An-2 repair field at Chernoye on the NE side of Moscow (near Monino)

Add that Moscow is awfully short on hotels, and don’t count on getting a hotel even somewhere close to Zhukovskii (just about forget about the Bykovo/Lukhovitsy area of the city, as it’s all packed for MAKS).

If your basic goal is visiting MAKS, perhaps it’s worth to consider visiting the place from the other end. The Intourist hotel in Kolomna was back in 2001 very reasonably priced, by no means a total dive, and hardly any further from Zhukovskii than e.g. the Izmailovo hotel. Nice town as well, a few nice bars and stuff and happily devoid of Moscow-bling-bling. A train or chartered taxi (Kolomnan, not-Moscovian) should get you to MAKS without any problems, especially since you’ll be avoiding the Moscow-MAKS traffic congestions.

My advice would be to fly to Moscow, rent a car, ‘do’ MAKS out of Kolomna or a similar not-too-far provincial town, and do a bit of expeditionary planespotting. There’s a lot more to Russia than just Moscow, and a lot more to Russian aircraft than MAKS and Monino.

Chastlivo puty!

Moscow is one of the most expensive cities in the world now, especially if you are looking at hotel rooms. Public transport is still cheap though.

Don’t forget that you also need to factor in the time and costs of getting a visa.
